Li Zi's departure caused people's deep nostalgia for that faraway era: Hong Kong's Phoenix Radio held a review of the glorious era of translation at the Shanghai Film Museum, and then Shanghai Labor Newspaper also held a retrospective of classic translations at the request of the majority of movie lovers, which sent the majority of movie lovers' deep nostalgia for the first generation of Chinese voice actors. The first generation of voice actors, Zhao Shenzhi and Su Xiu, were invited to attend these events, and people listened to their stories about their work and life in those days and the deep friendship between them. The Chinese have a traditional custom of wishing the elderly a happy birthday, "do nine, not ten". In May last year, Su Xiu celebrated the 89th birthday of Zhao Shenzhi, who is one year older than her, and all of our friends participated in the celebration, and the two sisters were very happy.

In June this year, Zhao Shenzhi and took the initiative to organize her a year younger Su Xiu 89 birthday celebration, we met again. Su Xiu said with infinite emotion: "Li Zi gone, make me realize that these old colleagues of mine are my closest friends in the world. We get together too little." When she finished cutting the cake, the mischievous Di (Di Fei Fei, a third-generation voice actor, the backbone of the Shanghai Translation Factory, and the lead dubbing and directing) made sure to ask Su Xiu what she wished for, so that she could keep the last wish, and that the first two wishes would have to be told to everyone. Su Xiu said, "Well, the first wish is for everyone's good health, and the second wish is that I can live on my own and live happily with my old friends for the rest of my last days." You can see how joyful and happy she and Zhao Shenzhi are laughing.

What shook me the most was that some movie lovers and fans of translation and production in Northeast China and Beijing, including director and producer Li Tong, Jiang Jiang, Li Dongni and Cai Ying from Shanghai, had planned to hold a commemorative event to honor the "Brilliant Era - Introducing the Dubbing Actors and Translated Classic Works of Shanghai Film Translation Factory" a few years ago. They had planned to organize a performance to commemorate the "Brilliant Era - Introducing Shanghai Film Translation Factory's Dubbing Actors and Translating Classic Works" for several years, but for various reasons, they were unable to do so. However, due to various reasons, it was not possible to do so. Li Zi's departure had touched them too much, and they absolutely could not delay it any longer. After many efforts, they finally realized their wish and performed "The Age of Splendor" on April 18th and 19th at the National Grand Theatre in Beijing. They invited Zhao Shenzhi and Su Xiu, two old sisters, to Beijing to participate in the performance. At the same time, they also invited a number of second-generation voice actors and actresses from Shanghai Translation and Interpretation Factory to perform with them, which was also a major social activity of Shanghai Translation and Interpretation Factory.

Respect and love

The performance at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing in April was the first of its kind for me since I joined the company, with a large scale, many guests and a large audience. The performance was divided into two days, the 18th was the first part and the 19th was the second part. Almost all of the old actors of the Translation Factory were introduced, and the most wonderful clips of each actor were selected, which was a big review of the translated classic works. The degree of audience enthusiasm is unprecedented, the two shows of the tickets were ordered early, there are from all over the country translation of the film fans, Hong Kong fans came by plane, Beijing, all over the fans have to take the high-speed railroad, there are self-driving car to come.

The show was hosted by Xue Fei, with special guests Chen Danqing, Cui Yongyuan, Jiang Ping, Xu Tao and Li Lihong, who performed with us, movingly introducing many of the late dubbing actors and their classics.

We came backstage at the NCPA early on the evening of the 18th, and the organizers arranged dressing rooms and rest rooms for us. Reporters kept coming backstage for interviews, and the organizers were too busy to persuade each other to do so, so in order to ensure that we performed, the reporters still looked for gaps to conduct brief interviews.

That day, Cui Yongyuan also came early, he was the guest host when Su Xiu and I went on stage in the second half, and we were all old acquaintances. I asked Cui, "Can the audience sit through us seventy-year-olds chatting with everyone on stage?" He said, "Mr. Sun, you don't understand these fans, they are all loyal viewers of translation, and they have a kind of reverence and love for the voice actors of the Shanghai Translation Factory, many of them grew up watching translation, they love to listen to the good voices of the voice actors, and they can memorize a lot of the wonderful clips, and they all have the discs and cassette tapes of the classic translations hidden in their homes. They have a lot of clips of translation movies in their collection. At parties of good friends, they would have one or two dubbing clips, and many of them could imitate the voices of the dubbing actors. It will be very exciting to see you on stage today and to hear you talk about the past."

Things went exactly as Choi said they would, and both shows went well, with the audience giving Soo Soo a long standing ovation when she appeared on stage, and everything she said was brought to a crescendo of applause when Choi asked Soo Soo, "How do you inspire the actors as a director." Su Xiu said, "I cited two small examples, once Yuan Guoying in the supporting drama, there is a scene old excited, I whispered in her ear: 'Your son is the head of the Central Committee x x x.' I whispered in her ear, 'Your son is the head of the central government.' Yuan Guoying was instantly delighted and expressed the old woman's giddiness. On another occasion, Chen Zhaoxiong was talking about his son's constant lack of energy in the middle of a scene, and he thought about how his seven- or eight-year-old son was often obnoxious. I said to him loudly: 'Siu-hung, you've won the lottery, you've won a million dollars.' Zhaohsiung's excitement was instantly ignited." After hearing this, Xiao Cui said, "So the translation director even lied." Su Xiu reacted extremely quickly, "Isn't there a jingle that the actors are crazy, the director is a liar, and the audience is stupid?" The audience was delighted. Su Xiu's chatting on stage was met with warm applause from the audience, expressing their love for the old generation of voice actors - delivering countless masterpieces to the audience in those hard times, and opening a window of understanding to the world for the people of China through the efforts of the voice actors. The audience's applause expressed their reverence for the older generation of voice actors.

I was just talking about what I should do as a translation director on the stage, which are ordinary things I should try to do, and was interrupted by the audience's applause again and again. When we mentioned that Chen Shuyi, the old director, not only brought out the first generation of voice actors, but also trained us, the second generation actors, the audience kept giving enthusiastic applause, expressing their tribute to Chen Shuyi, the founder of Shanghai Translation and Interpretation Factory.

Zhao Shenzhi attended the show on the 19th, and Zhao Shenzhi prepared a wonderful dubbing clip. When she was young, Zhao Shenzhi had dubbed the lead role in the movie "Hiroshima Love", and later she found out that the French actress had starred in a movie "Amour" in her old age, and Zhao Shenzhi and the actress synchronized their transition from youth to old age, and now she dubbed her voice again, which was very appropriate, and she prepared to dedicate this dubbing clip to the audience today. She didn't sleep well in the past two days after arriving in Beijing, and before she went on stage, the 90-year-old Zhao suddenly felt a little dizzy, and her blood pressure seemed to have risen. Everyone advised her to stop acting and go to the hospital. Zhao Shenzhi said: I have to apologize to the audience, she went on stage to tell the truth, the audience gave her a warm applause. When she went backstage, the enthusiastic applause had not stopped, Zhao Shenzhi turned back, again apologizing to the audience. Lao Zhao went to the hospital and rested for a while, much better, she said to Su Xiu, "I'm so ashamed, I prepared well, how could this happen." Su Xiu comforted her, saying, "Your dubbing audience understand, you today in this situation, but also seriously apologize to the audience, has fully expressed as an actor should be the virtue of the play."

Combatant bond

The Sangshang Translation Group (the predecessor of the Sangshang Translation Workshop) was finally set up in February 1950 under Chen Xuyi's efforts. Su Xiu, a literary youth who loved music and theater, reported to the translation team on September 7 of that year, when he was 24 years old. On the same day, Yang Wenyuan and Hu Qinghan also reported for duty. Later, Zhao Shenzhi, also in military uniform, reported to the translation team from the army's literary troupe.

Since then, Zhao Shenzhi and Su Xiu have been contributing their talents to China's translation and dubbing business, and their voices have been left behind in hundreds of translated films. Decades of dubbing career has left their footprints of dedication, leaving their hard work and sweat to climb the peak of art.

Dubbing was still a new language subject in those days. Actors acting, for their own characters in the movie dubbing this is very normal, but now to dub for the characters in foreign films, to give up their ego, to use their voices, language for the foreign actors in the film dubbing, and to correctly convey the thoughts and feelings of the characters in the play, personality characteristics, which is a new subject. The old factory director Chen Xuyi still had a method to train the young voice actors at that time.

In the 1950s, the translation team translated many Soviet films, and at that time, they invited actors from the Shanghai Film Actor's Theater to participate in the dubbing, such as Wei Yuping, Gao Bo, Sun Daoling, Lin Bin, Zhu Sha, etc. Because these actors had a good command of the language, they were able to communicate the characters' thoughts and feelings correctly, which was a new challenge. Because these actors had attainments in language and high skills in molding characters with their voices, they were all good actors who were able to convey the true feelings of the characters in their lines, especially in their language, which was very life-like, natural, and fluent. Chen Xuyi in the arrangement of voice roles with the old with the new, such as the movie "Michurin" let Gao Bo with Michurin, let Su Xiu with Michurin wife; in the movie "A person's encounter" let Gao Bo with the male protagonist, let Zhao Shenzhi with his wife; in the "Lone Star Tears of Blood" let Su Xiu, Shang Hua with the male and female protagonists, while Cheng Zhi with the lawyers, Zhongshu Huang with the robbers, Lusan with the old lady, a group of actors with the hard lining to support the young male and female protagonists; In the movie "Birthright" let Zhang Tongning match the black mother, let Lin Bin and Zhong Shuhuang match the young pair; in "Anna Karenina" let Qiu Yuefeng match Karenin, Shu Xiuwen match Anna, Han Fei match Wolensky ...... In short, using the method in the traditional Chinese Peking Opera, let the master put the scene to the apprentice, this method works well in practice, the Zhao Shenzhi, Su Xiu, Qiu Yuefeng, Shang Hua and a number of other young dubbing soon grew up to be unique.

Zhao Shenzhi and Su Xiu, they are of similar age, the road of the play also has a lot of similar places, over the decades, in their bodies, never "literati" this saying, in the creation of mutual trust, mutual concern, never leave a hand, always hope that the other side with the success of the play, and for this reason, and happy and joyful. For example, there was a very sensational movie "Hiroshima Love", which was a writer's movie, a representative work of stream-of-life and stream-of-consciousness. At that time in the dubbing also formed a kind of shift system, Qiu Yuefeng, Li Zi just finished dubbing "White Night", the next movie should be the turn of Bi Ke, Su Xiu ride. At this time came "Love in Hiroshima", Lao Qiu and Su Xiu privately discussed that Su Xiu should be the leading lady of the play. After watching the movie, Su Xiu also thought she was suitable. But then director Shi Hanwei decided to cast Ding and Zhao Shenzhi as the male and female leads. When Zhao Shenzhi received the assignment, he took the initiative to come to Su Xiu to ask for her help, because it was the first time he touched a stream-of-consciousness movie, and everyone was trying to figure it out. Soo Soo thought at the time, "You stole my role, and you're coming to me for help? But due to years of comradeship, she felt that she should help her, and was very touched by Zhao Shenzhi's trust in herself, so the two were in the studio constantly rehearsing the play, figuring out the meaning of the lines, and Zhao paid special attention to the actor's eyes in the process of dubbing, figuring out the original film actor's inner activities and changes in feelings in his eyes, and so he was very successful in the character portrayal. Until Zhao Shenzhi finished dubbing the play, Su Xiu felt joy for Zhao Shenzhi's success, and this was the friendship between them.

In fact, the two of them are similar, but they have their own strengths. Zhao Shenzhi is better at lively, simple characters, while Su Su specializes in steady, mature roles. In this regard, each of them has shown their talents. For example, in the movie "The Invincible People," Jo was cast as the lively daughter and Soo was cast as the mature mother; in "Cops and Thieves," Soo was cast as the thief's wife and Jo was cast as the policeman's daughter.

In terms of characterization, Zhao Shenzhi prefers tragic characters, while Su Su prefers strong, complex characters. Zhao Shenzhi when he was young, he liked the movie "Stealing Magpies", "A Man's Encounter", and in his old age, he liked the role of Granny Azaki in "Looking at the Countryside"; Su Xiu when he was young, he liked Miss Marquis in "Forty-One", "The Red and the Black", and when he was old, he matched with his mistress Sang-ja in the "Gorgeous Family". And in this movie Zhao Shenzhi matches the role of the aggravated wife.

Su Xiu chatted with me the other day, mentioning in particular that Zhao Shenzhi's "The Prodigy" was really great, and that the heroine's pursuit of the man she loved was so simple and lovely that it was a perfect display of the character, which was very natural and life-like. She also misses the happy feeling of being able to participate in "Driving for Miss Daisy" in her old age and dubbing for Miss Daisy. What a wonderful bond of selfless comradeship that a kind of **** same pursuit of a career forged between them.

Zhao Shenzhi, Su Su also sowed their friendship in the young people, all the young actors who came into the factory can feel their love and help.

Su Xiu told me something that made her very sad. In the Cultural Revolution, some young people came to the Translation Factory, some actors, some interpreters, and the labor military propaganda team said to the young people, "The actors' group is a big dyestuff tank, it's so dark that you young people have to be careful, and less contact with these old guys." What a slur this was! Su Xiu was chilled to the bone when she heard such words. She originally did not know how to play poker, but during the reign of the military propaganda team, she used her lunch break every day to learn from Xiaowu (Jingwei) and Xiaoyan (Chongde), and learned "one hundred points" and "catching pigs".

After the downfall of the Gang of Four, the situation was completely different, and the two of them unreservedly told their experience and even lessons to the young actors. Zhao Shenzhi accompanied the young actors in the studio to record their scenes, and when they had a bad accent, she would stand behind you and poke you, so that you could find a place to speak. In the rehearsal room, she will accompany you to rehearse the scene, watching the movie and talking about the scene over and over again, so that you can grasp the ups and downs of the character's feelings. When a play is finished and you seriously communicate, point out where good, where not enough, and help you find out the reasons for future improvement, a sincere.

Su Xiu later in addition to supporting the play also served as director, she also often used the old director of the year to cultivate their methods, the old with the new so that the young actors in the practice of faster growth. For example, in the movie "I'm Two Years Old", Cao Lei and Shi Rong were paired with a couple, so that Cao Lei could bring up the young Shi. Another example is that in the Japanese movie "The Call of the Faraway Mountain", there is a role of the neighbor's sister-in-law, which is Zhao Shenzhi's play, Su Xiu gave this role to the new actor Wang Jianxin, and asked Zhao Shenzhi to help Wang to rehearse the play as a gatekeeper. When the appraisal was made after the play was finished, Chen Xuyi, the old director of the factory, said that Wang had done a good job. This is how Zhao Shenzhi and Su Xiu silently care about the growth of young people.

Xiaotong (Zirong), Xiaohua (Cheng Xiaohua), Xiaohian (Shen Xiaoqian), Xiaoshi (Shi Rong), Xiaodi (Fei Fei) ...... and many other actors from the translation department of Shanghai Television, Chenguang, Lin Dungfu, Liu Jiazhen, Liu Bin, Chen Zhaohsiung, Ni Kang, Zhang Huan, Meimei, Jin Lin, Ji Hong, Wei Si Yun ...... and a host of other young actors can name many beneficial teachings and careful guidance. In Zhao Shenzhi, Su Xiu's heart overflowing is the cause of a successor and heartfelt pleasure.

I would like to say that both of them cared for Xiao Gai (Wenyuan). Xiao Gai has a good voice and language, and with the help of the old comrades, he progressed very quickly, and soon took the lead in many leading roles. They were happy for Xiao Gai's progress. But then Xiao Gai's righteousness, drinking and lack of self-control made both of them very anxious, and they advised Xiao Gai many times, and Xiao Gai also listened to the advice to improve. But in the impact of the market economy, Xiaogai can not resist the temptation to do business with people outside the factory and many times cheated and failed to pay a false sick note in the factory, then there are individuals in the factory through Xiaogai made a mistake to kick him out of the factory door. At that time, Zhao Shenzhi, Su Xiu has retired, know that most of the comrades in the actor group to recognize the error of determination to correct the small cover to stay in the factory, under the supervision of everyone's help to make him correct his mistakes as soon as possible, that is to do is to really help a comrade who has made a mistake, after all, the small cover is a dubbing talent. Zhao Shenzhi, Su Xiu has not forgotten Xiaogai, when we go to the orphanage to visit Xiaogai, they in addition to send a message of greetings, but also let us give Xiaogai to bring some money to add a living supplies. Especially when Xiaogai died last year due to illness, they took the initiative to put together some money with all of us to buy a cemetery for Xiaogai, so that Xiaogai can be buried in peace. Their sincerity and kindness touched us as descendants.

After I joined the factory, I have been cared by these two elder sisters, not only in the work, I and Su Xiu co-directed a number of translation films, I learned a lot from her, she inspired the actors have a special way. In addition to work, they also cared about me in every aspect of life. Let's take two small things as examples. In the early seventies, when our country's food supply was still rationed, Zhao Shenzhi knew that I had five brothers, all of whom were in the countryside, so she gave me dozens of pounds of national food stamps that she had saved up over the years, so that I could send them back to my hometown. My two younger brothers because of food stamps, dare to use the rural areas out of the countryside in the city knocking iron, dry cold work work for the family to increase the income of a little for the father's treatment. In the process of working outside, he made some friends, which laid the foundation for him to open a factory later. My third brother still can't forget the support Mr. Zhao gave my family.

And, in the eighties, television began to come into the home, and one day I came to work, Su Xiu noticed that I was in a bad mood and asked me what was going on, and I told her that my youngest daughter had to go upstairs to watch TV every night, and my father-in-law's youngest grandchildren often argued about switching the channel, which ended up making the grown-ups unhappy with each other. Su Xiu said you buy a TV set, I said almost money. Not two days later, I remember it was a Saturday, as soon as I got to work, Su Xiu handed me three hundred dollars: "Tomorrow, buy your daughter a TV set, so as not to cause disharmony in the family." Early Sunday morning I went to the store and bought a 12-inch black-and-white TV set, which cost me 500 yuan. This was not a small amount of money at that time. That night my youngest daughter got to watch the TV. She still remembers that it was Su Xiu's big mom who made it possible for me to watch TV before other children. Three or four months later, I earned my writing fees and returned the money to Su. She said to me, "You have a low salary, two children, and a lot of financial pressure, I'm not in a hurry to use the money, so keep it for now and buy more if you want to add something!" "Old Su, no need, I'm very grateful to you for solving the right and wrong in my backyard so that I can work in peace." The oldest sister was so sincere in helping me solve my difficulties.

At that time, I was indeed under a lot of financial pressure, and in addition to my factory work, I also took part in voice-over work outside the factory to earn some extra dollars. I also took advantage of the evening to write some movie review articles. Sometimes write things also often let the old Su look at, she always very seriously look at, put forward the revised opinion, "you write something very real, very sincere, the text is like a person, but the problem is wordy, lest others do not understand." Until now she also read what I wrote, there are encouragement and reminders.

Lao Zhao also knew that we were living a very hard life, often leave a good meal for my youngest daughter, see my hair is thinning day by day, know that it is to stay up all night to write, will also often urge me: "Xiao Sun, can pay attention to the body ah!" These sincere love and care, I will always remember in my heart.

Efforts to pass on the legacy

Old Zhao and Su, who retired in the 1980s, have not been idle, and have also taken part in the dubbing work from time to time, and Su Xiu has also been employed as a director of the translation department of the Shanghai Television Station, and continues to give play to her spare time by doing the work of training young actors, and by bringing the strict artistic creation method of the Shanghai Translation Plant to the translation department. She brought the strict artistic creation method of Shanghai Translation Factory to the Translation Department, and taught the young generation the good tradition of helping each other and improving the quality of dubbing for the sake of the same goal, so the two old sisters were loved by the young people wherever they worked.

They are often interviewed by journalists from all over the world in the years after their retirement, and Lao Zhao always seriously recounts the work of that era and speaks of the friendship of the old generation of actors and actresses, and passes on some of the good style. Su Xiu even recorded his own voice-over work and wrote it as "My Voice-over Career"; he also edited a book "Feng Hua Bi Xu": introducing the four old men of the Translation Factory - Chen Xuyi, Qiu Yuefeng, Bi Ke and Shang Hua; he also published a set of audio tapes introducing the voice-over actors of the factory, "Aftertaste Through Time and Space". In this way the work of inheritance was done. Although the years have passed, a glorious era is far away, but this valuable treasure has been recorded, this is the mark of history, this is the footprints of the times. I am really grateful to Lao Zhao and Lao Su, the two spokespersons of the first generation of voice actors, who have done a meritorious inheritance work.

Today, the two oldest old people are living a very pleasant life, 90-year-old Zhao Shenzhi lives in Nanxiang senior citizen's apartment, and lives all by herself. She also went to the factory from time to time with an old lady to say a few words, but also quite happy to broadcast a novel, always trying to find something to do for themselves. She is well liked, and retired comrades from other departments of the Translation Factory often visit her and gather at her place. She liked to be lively, friends and colleagues gathered together, which was the happiest time for her.

Su Xiu, 89, lives in an apartment building with her daughter and son-in-law. She is now a migratory bird, always going to her son's place in Beijing for three or four months every winter, which is heated to prevent asthma attacks. She also writes and writes, and even more remarkable is that she has learned to use a computer, and all her literary ideas are tapped out through the keyboard and turned into beautiful words that often appear in newspapers and magazines.

The two old people in the factory when the body is not good, the old Zhao afraid of the wind, the hot days often wear a coat, a little weak, we joked that she is the body of the sister of the forest. Su Xiu asthma was very strong, from time to time to spray some medicine. Retirement after the two of them can be more and more good health. Both of them have strong self-control, always maintain good habits, eat never greedy, seven minutes full on the line. Often think of old friends to get together, I worked in the factory for many years as the director of the actor room, and everyone has a good relationship, the two old people often call me, so that I call the retired old man, good friends to get together, but also fun to give me a beautiful name "Sun Zhao". Good friends get together so that the two old people are very happy, often get together to recall the year in the factory's work situation. The "foreign appearance" of that year has become today's joke, and the friendship of that year has become today's good memories. You look at the photo, the two old people laugh how happy.
