After a number of years, disciples who became masters might open their doors to teach their disciples if they could not find someone of high moral character, and then cultivate their morals while teaching martial arts. Those with good morals are granted high ranked martial arts. Therefore, throughout history, Chinese martial arts have been passed down in two ways: first, selecting people to teach; second, teaching people to cultivate their character.
But the purpose of both methods is one, that is, martial arts is the most important.
The inheritance of Chinese martial arts stems from martial virtues, and martial virtues stem from morality. To this day, it is evident for all to see that the moral background of the Chinese nation has been destroyed, and the Chinese martial arts have declined along with the decline of morality.
If a person loses his higher spiritual beliefs, does not believe in God or Buddha, he will be influenced by material things and desires. With the decline of morality in history, martial arts masters and disciples inherited, some of them gradually emphasize fame and fortune over martial virtues, which is the result of neglecting morality in a society governed by the rule of law. Martial arts can be fought for the country and the people, but distinguishing between good and evil, good and evil, right and wrong, is the most basic and important martial virtue.
Ancient chain practitioners, who emphasized faith and morality and were indifferent to fame and fortune, were very strict in choosing their disciples, and their morality must be high. Virtue and martial arts must be refined, and kung fu is also high. When mankind entered the period of the end of faith, the overall morality declined, so did the martial arts, and it was difficult to go deeper in martial arts.
If a society loses its faith in Buddhism and Taoism, the politicians of that society can't talk about honesty and love for the people, businessmen put profit before everything else, the medical ethics of doctors can't be guaranteed, and there will be endless public evils in the industrial production of a promise that is not a promise. If a person does not practice martial arts, he will be complicit in the evils of the world, bully the good and fear the evil, and become an unrighteous person; there is no morality in all walks of life.

The Prince of Pingyuan wanted to make him a knight, but Zhonglian refused. Prince Plain hosted a banquet for his guests. When the wine was finished, he got up and walked up to say thank you with his daughter. Lian said: people respect the people of the world simply because they can help others overcome difficulties and eliminate disasters and chaos without any reward. In the Three Kingdoms, Guan Yunchang was known as the Once Upon a Time in America for his sealing gag, traveling thousands of miles alone. When Zhang Sanfeng was young, he was a great swordsman and cultivated a path of passage, which was y hidden. Some bad guys did evil, Sanfeng only used an invisible Tai Chi ball to spin, and the thugs flew far out and landed on the ground, unable to move. Due to the lack of virtue in later generations, Sanfeng's mental skills were lost.
A few generations later to the end of the Ming Dynasty, Wang Zhengnan, the heir to the Wudang family boxing style, acquired the mysteries of Wudang. Every time he encountered many strong enemies, he was lucky to win and escape. The epitaph written for him by Huang Zongxi, a Confucian scholar of the Ming and Qing dynasties, exclaims, "It is sadly ambitious to have such skills and yet give them nothing, no help at all. Shallow mountains are old, lonely graves rest in peace, according to this inscription, several tests." I actually appreciate his superior martial arts skills. I don't want to display them for the sake of fame and fortune, and I don't need money for poverty in my later years. Only mountains and rivers and lonely graves can prove it!
Nowadays, some martial arts practitioners are keen on fame, fortune and fighting. Isn't it a shame to compare with the ancients? It can be seen that righteousness is the spirit of sacrifice of the benevolent, but also the embodiment of wisdom and courage. Isn't it essential for those who practice martial arts? The ancients watched martial arts less focused on intense fights. Yun Chang in the Three Kingdoms was praised as a martial arts saint by later generations, but no one looked down on Lu Bu, the tiger and wolf of the Third Household Slave. Dong Haichuan, Li Luoneng, and Yang Lu Chan, three teachers at the Normal University in the late Qing Dynasty, learned from each other and respected each other, which flowed through their boxing theories, but they never cared about which level. Together, they are called the Fist of the Family within the Family, showing the realm of a superior person.

So the essence of traditional Chinese martial arts is martial virtue, meaning to do evil and promote good. For example, a doctor can make a living by curing diseases, but his medical skill is not only to make money, his medical virtue is to cure diseases and save people. Just as a businessman should do business to serve the public, not just to make a profit, his business ethics is to provide convenience for people. The virtue of politics should be to serve the country and the people, not to use one's power for personal gain and to harm others; these should be the indispensable moral concepts of today's human beings. The martial virtues mentioned here are only a small part of human morality. In short, only if everyone is moral, human beings can be free from mutual harm and move towards a better life.
