What is the smallest ethnic group in China?
Hezhe nationality, with an existing population of 4200. Hezhe people mostly live in Tongjiang, Fuyuan, Raohe and other cities and counties in Heilongjiang Province, northeast of China. Hezhe nationality has a long history and is closely related to the ancient nationalities in Northeast China, such as Su Shenzu, Loulou, Buji and Jurchen. Heijin and Hezhe Hala in Qing Dynasty were the ancestors of Hezhe.
Hezhe nationality has its own language. Hezhe language belongs to Manchu-Tungusic language family of Altai language family. There is no national language, and most of them use Chinese.
Hezhe people believe in Shamanism and animism.
Hezhe nationality is the only nationality in northern China who lives by fishing and pulls sleds with dogs.
