What material is ceramic glaze made of?
Ceramic glaze is made of clay, feldspar and water in proportion, and is usually applied to the surface of the green body of fired ceramics. Ceramic glaze can prevent the erosion of liquid and gas, improve the aesthetics of ceramics to a certain extent, and easily maintain and maintain the luster of ceramic surface.
Glazing process is one of the manufacturing processes of ancient ceramics, which refers to applying glaze slurry on the surface of the molded ceramic body. The main function of glazing is to protect the green body, make the surface of the product smooth, waterproof and pollution-free, and improve the mechanical strength, surface hardness, chemical stability and thermal stability of ceramic products.
Glaze can cover up the defects of the blank and greatly improve the decorative effect of ceramic products. The glaze layer can prevent the dissolution of toxic elements in the pigment and increase the functions of the product, such as sterilization, antistatic and luminous functions.
The glaze is truly uncoated, and it is wear-resistant and not easy to scratch, super chemical-resistant, and safe, healthy and lasting to use. The ceramics we use every day are usually dressed in smooth clothes. This kind of ceramic clothes is called "glaze".
How many kinds of glazes are there for ceramics?
1. Raw glaze is made by grinding unmelted materials, which can usually be divided into feldspar glaze and lime glaze. Feldspar glaze has high hardness, excellent luster and milky white color, but its expansion coefficient is large and it is easy to crack. Lime glaze has high hardness, good luster and high transparency, but its melting range is not large, and it is easy to produce smoke when fired, so it is mostly used for decorative products.
2. The frit glaze is made by mixing various materials and inorganic raw materials in a corresponding proportion, and then melting and grinding at high temperature. A small amount of plastic clay can be added during fine grinding, and the produced glaze slurry has strong stability and excellent adhesion. It is characterized by very smooth glaze and few pinholes, and is mostly used in soft porcelain products, such as bone porcelain, talc porcelain and glazed tiles.
3. Molten salt glaze is characterized by light and thin glaze layer, but high hardness, usually closely combined with the blank, good acid and alkali resistance and first-class thermal stability, and is mostly used in chemical stoneware products.
4. Earth glaze, which we usually call mud glaze, is made of pure natural clay after elutriation, and its color is between yellowish brown and dark brown. Its characteristic is that it is very simple to make and saves a lot of cost, and it is mostly used in ceramic products.
