What is a melodic line?

The melodic line refers to the movement of the o's of a note, as long as the o's of the note are connected into a line, you can see the melodic line. For example, if the notes are d, r, m, f, s, and each note goes up, the melodic line is a diagonal line of upward o's. Another example: sometimes the notes go up, sometimes they go down, and sometimes they go down. For example, if the notes are d r m f s, and each note goes up, the melody line will be a slanting line upwards.

In the Baroque era

that is, Bach's compositions

were called polyphonic music

like Two Part Inventions

24 Prelude and fugue

The compositions usually consisted of two, three or four melodies

These melodies are the most common of the time.

These melodies were the lines of the music of the time. After the Classical period

music was largely composed of melody and harmony

called homophonic music. the melodic line was usually the most important

and attractive part of a piece

for example, in Beethoven's Symphony No. 5

the violin part plays m-m-m-d--

r-r-r-t

.....

Motot's little stars like d-d-s-s-l-l-s

f-f-m-m-r-r-d....... are the lines of the piece; most of the melody occurs in the high notes

The lower notes are usually harmonized. But the line sometimes appears in the middle of the piece

Chopin's Scherzo

Brahms's Intermezzo Opus 118 No.2

James Lyman Molly's Love's Old Sweet Song (children's Pieces), and so on. Pieces), etc. Melodic lines can also appear in the bass such as Robert Schumann's Joyous Farmer

Franz Schubert's The Unfinished Symphony (from the 'Children's Pieces'). Image reference: .yimg/iugc/rte/ *** iley_3 own text
