How do Hui people sweep graves?
Fried oil incense is a must for all twelve Hui festivals and a unique custom of Chinese Islam.
On the morning of the festival, adult men bathe themselves clean, dress up, or hold incense sticks and gather in mosques or go out to hold ceremonies. After that, say hello to the imam first, and then say "Salam" to each other. After the ceremony, the imam will lead a group tour to sweep the grave, or every family will sweep the grave to pray for the deceased, paint the lettering on the tombstone in red and cultivate the whole tomb. Then go to relatives and friends' homes to worship separately, and give each other various fried fruits such as oily incense and glutinous rice to express congratulations.
