Development of MES system
At the beginning of 1990s, China began to follow up, publicize or pilot MES and ERP, and once put forward the concepts of CIMS, MES, ERP and SCM with China characteristics, such as "integration of management and control", "people, finance, goods, production, supply and marketing", which only summarized, generalized, publicized, persisted or refined and popularized, and the development momentum was not fast.
The earliest MES in China was introduced from Siemens in the early stage of Baosteel's construction in the 1980s. China's industrial informatization basically follows the track of western industrial countries, but it is only half-baked. Almost most universities and industrial automation research units, and even national, provincial and municipal government departments have begun to follow up MES. From the central government to local governments, from societies to associations, from IT companies to manufacturers, from comprehensive websites to professional websites, from comprehensive universities to colleges, they are all involved in the MES craze.
Manufacturing Execution Management System (MES) is the link of enterprise CIMS information integration and the basic technical means to implement enterprise agile manufacturing strategy and realize agile workshop production. MES is a rapidly developing production management technology and workshop real-time information system in the world. MES can provide users with a quick response, flexible and fine manufacturing environment, and help enterprises reduce costs, deliver goods on time, improve product quality and improve service quality. IT is suitable for different industries (household appliances, automobiles, semiconductors, communications, IT, medicine), and can provide good enterprise information management for single mass production and mixed manufacturing enterprises with both small and large-scale production of multiple varieties.
MES, as the product of the transformation of production mode, mostly comes from the internal demand of the factory. In order to better understand the background of MES, we first review the development history of computer-aided production management system. Manufacturing Execution System (MRPII) was rapidly popularized and widely used under the promotion and organization of American Production and Inventory Management Association (APICS) in 1980s, but it also exposed some shortcomings, such as that MRPII did not pay enough attention to forecasting demand and sales management, and could not make good use of a large number of real-time events and data in the workshop. Many enterprises realize that other systems are needed to solve the problem of weak management of MRPII in some aspects. Therefore, in order to meet the demand of sales and forecasting, distribution resource planning DRP (Distribution Resource Planning) came into being. Similarly, in order to strengthen the executive function of the workshop, Manufacturing Execution System (MES) came into being.
