Bay: If I have to say that I have made some achievements and received some honors, it can only represent the past. Reporter Shi: your father let you study finance, you chose to study architecture, why?

Bei: This is also a coincidence. When I was studying in Shanghai, I used to go to a billiard hall to play billiards on weekends. Bay: Yes. As we all know: the world is created by the masses of people, but most of them live in the bottom of society, due to the economic level of the limitations, very much aspire to good quality and inexpensive housing. After I set up my own company, the first thing I started to do was to design a lot of popular apartments for these working class people, which are both architecturally beautiful and more economical and practical, and are very popular among them.

Reporter Gu: Bei Lao, I heard that the then U.S. President Jimmy Carter was in? East Building? The opening of the ribbon-cutting ceremony, praised it as a harmonious and well-thought-out part of Washington, D.C. From the pictures we can also see that it is highly harmonized with its surroundings, why did you pay special attention to this point at that time.

Bei: I grew up in Suzhou when I was a child, and the long corridors and winding paths, the rockeries and water pavilions of Suzhou's gardens, and especially the pattern of the architectural buildings complementing the natural landscape around them, as well as the use of the aesthetics of light and shadow, went deep into my mind, which is in fact the essence of Chinese national architecture.

Reporter Cai: May I ask why you gave up an invitation to design a high-rise near the Forbidden City and chose to design the Fragrant Hills Hotel away from the city?

Bei: I first came back to China in 1978 for the design of the Xiangshan Hotel. At that time, I proposed that the ancient city of Beijing should be well protected, especially to control the height of the buildings around the Forbidden City, this proposal was accepted by the government. I gave a speech at Tsinghua University, and I said that above the Forbidden City's gilded roof is a clear blue sky. Reporter Gu: Why did you design the Xiangshan Hotel and never looked back?

Bay: I think my biggest design failure was the Beijing Xiangshan Hotel. In fact, in the architectural design of the Fragrant Hills Hotel, I was inside and outside the hotel every water flow direction, the size of the stone, every place of the trees and plants have a precise plan, and even also the number of flowers have specific instructions. Also but the workers in the construction of the building on these ? Details? They didn't care about them, they just did what they wanted to do. Innovations The workers changed the line and size of the water flow, carried the stones without weight, and inadvertently adjusted the water flow in a way that they did not realize.
