Baoshan Stone Town is divided into inner city and outer city. The houses in the city are typical Naxi wooden houses and wooden tile houses. It is a typical example to study the formation and development of Naxi traditional villages. It was built in the first year of Yuan Dynasty (1264- 1294). It is the place where the descendants of the ancient Qiang people migrated across Sichuan to Yunnan, and it is also the first settlement where the Shuyou clan entered Yunnan.
Architectural features of Baoshan Stone Town;
The folk houses in Baoshan Stone Town are typical Naxi wooden houses and wooden tile houses, mostly two-story courtyards with "three squares and one wall" and "four in one patio". However, due to the ups and downs of the terrain, the courtyard also changes randomly. Houses generally have no foundation, and the foundation of the bottom wall is made of stone. The walls are large and small, and tilt slightly inward.
The wall in the middle part is made of adobe or bricks, while the wall in the upper part is made of wooden boards with openable window sashes in the middle. The eaves have overhangs, and at the same time, the exposed end of the beam is added with "eaves boards", and "hanging fish" is set at the junction of the two boards to protect the beam and play a decorative role.
Houses in the inner city consist of the main building and underground buildings. Usually the main building faces south and the underground building faces west. The main rooms are mostly two-story wooden buildings with bucket beams and verandahs.
Underground buildings are generally two or three stories, with high stone foundations and adobe walls. Most of the downstairs is used as a pigsty for raising livestock, while the upstairs is a kitchen and storage room. Stone Town is characterized by various stone objects, including stone beds, stone pots, stone mills, stone furnaces, stone tables, stone knives, stone hammers, stone chopping boards and even sheepskin bags.
