What are the Miao costumes in America?
The Miao people in the United States are very similar to those in China, but they have a "Miao robe" copied from other Vietnamese ethnic groups "Ao Dai". Actually, it's a long black dress, which is worn by both men and women. It's very distinctive. They are all self-woven, self-embroidered and self-stitched linen, flower patterns, foot binding, shawls and clothes. With the continuous development of commodity economy, scattered family workshops that produce and process Miao costumes are constantly emerging, and the number of households is pitiful. During this period, linen was the main clothing, supplemented by other fabrics, and the style still followed the old-fashioned traditional clothing patterns, with simple and monotonous colors.
Miao costumes also stand out from many national costumes and are famous throughout the country and even the world for their bright colors, colorful decorations and intriguing historical and cultural connotations. A multi-color dress, which embodies the eternal desire of gods, animal expressions, mountains, trees and flowers, is called "the history book worn on the body and the words embroidered on the clothes" by historians all over the world.
