Will solid-state batteries replace lithium batteries now in use?

At present, pure electric vehicles are mainly equipped with ternary batteries, and some models use lithium iron phosphate batteries, both of which belong to liquid lithium batteries. As a liquid battery, it is obviously affected by temperature, especially at low temperature, the internal chemical reaction will be inhibited, which will affect the storage capacity and thus the endurance performance. In order to alleviate this situation, many enterprises have begun to lay out the field of solid-state batteries. Will solid-state batteries replace lithium batteries?

In fact, the so-called solid-state battery is a battery using solid electrolyte. Compared with liquid battery, this kind of battery has a wider working temperature range and is therefore more stable. In addition, due to the use of solid electrolyte, the lithium dendrite phenomenon in the use of liquid lithium batteries is effectively avoided, and the possibility of thermal runaway is greatly reduced. In addition, solid-state batteries have higher energy density and can provide longer cruising range.

Even so, solid-state batteries still have a long way to go to replace liquid lithium batteries. Because although the advantages of solid-state batteries are obvious, there are still disadvantages. Compared with liquid batteries, the production cost of solid-state batteries is higher. The cost of liquid lithium battery is about 200-300 USD/kWh. If the existing technology is used to manufacture solid-state batteries enough to power smart phones, its cost will reach $6.5438+0.5 million, and the cost of solid-state batteries enough to power cars is higher, which directly hinders its popularization.

In addition, the solid electrolyte is used in the solid-state battery, and the interface between the solid-state battery and the electrode material is solid-solid, so the interface impedance is too large, which leads to a long charging time of the solid-state battery. As we all know, long charging time is one of the reasons for mileage anxiety. If this problem cannot be effectively solved, the possibility of replacing lithium batteries with solid-state batteries is also very low.

Therefore, although the solid-state battery has obvious advantages, it will not replace the liquid lithium battery in a short time because of its high production cost and expanded interface impedance.
