Reconstruction of Zifu Temple in Dongguan

Dongguan Zifu Temple, a thousand-year-old temple, will be rebuilt in Sha Tong Park in Dongcheng, covering an area of about 150 mu, and is expected to be completed in 3-5 years.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction of Zifu Temple in Dongguan was held in Sha Tong Park. Wen, Vice Chairman of Guangdong Provincial Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of Provincial Women's Federation, Liu Zhigeng, Secretary of Dongguan Municipal Party Committee and Director of Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee, Yang Yuanxing, Deputy Director of Guangdong Ethnic and Religious Committee, Vice Chairman and President of Guangdong Buddhist Association, Yan Xiaokang, Vice Mayor of Dongguan, Zhong Ganquan, Vice Chairman of Dongguan Municipal Political Consultative Conference and Minister of United Front Work Department, attended the groundbreaking ceremony and laid the foundation stone for Zifu Temple. According to the person in charge of the planning office of Zifu Temple Reconstruction Project, which covers an area of about 150 mu, the overall layout of Zifu Temple can be summarized as "one line, one circle and one piece" from west to east. The "first line" is from north to south: temple-Shanmen Square-Hongqiao-Buddhist altar; The "one circle" is centered on the Buddhist Art Museum, with meditation garden in the west, Dongpo Pavilion and reception center in the north, pharmacist story sculpture wall, entrance square, practice bridge and glass screen in the east, Aquarius Square and Kistler Garden in the south. At the same time, there are many garden sketches scattered around; "One piece" means parking area, transfer area and employee living area.

"One Line" and "One Circle" are the main components of Zifu Temple Scenic Area. The temple in the north-south direction-Shanmen Square-Hongqiao-Buddhist altar and the Daxiong Hall in the east-west direction-meditation garden-Buddhist art museum-glass wall are two main axes. The place where the two axes intersect vertically happens to be the Daxiong Hall of Zifu Temple, which appropriately embodies the center of the whole building. Zifu Temple was officially approved for reconstruction in 2009. The temple has a long history and profound cultural heritage. Rebuilding Zifu Temple is conducive to carrying forward Buddhist cultural traditions, developing cultural tourism and promoting social harmony. In the future, Zifu Temple will be built into a Buddhist resort and a cultural tourist resort to promote the development of tourism. Rebuilding Zifu Temple is a great blessing for Buddhist believers in Dongguan. Therefore, yesterday's groundbreaking ceremony for reconstruction attracted many believers to attend. They not only donated money on the spot, but also prayed for Zifu Temple, or crossed their hands or laid the foundation stone. Daxiong Hall is solemn, and Dongpo Pavilion reproduces historical allusions. The meditation center has nearly 100 rooms. Daxiong Hall is the core building in the central axis area, with double eaves temple structure. In the south, the Heavenly King Hall is the forerunner, which strengthens the sense of depth, and in the north, the Sutra Pavilion is the back seat, which shows more affinity. The four corners of the Treasure Hall are facing the East-West Hall, the Guanyin Hall and the Pharmacist Hall, just like the four-star arched moon, and the morning bell and dusk drum (bell tower and drum tower) will look solemn.

Dongpo Pavilion reproduces historical allusions Dongpo Pavilion is a two-story pavilion-style building. In the second year of Guangxu (AD 1876), Dongguan native Deng Rongjing built Dongpo Pavilion in Zifu Temple. As early as the Revolution of 1911, Dongpo Pavilion was the editor-in-chief of Dongguan News, the only organ newspaper published by the mainland revolutionary party at that time.

Therefore, the reconstruction of Dongpo Pavilion will not only show the inextricable connection between Su Shi and Zifu Temple, but also involve its role in the Revolution of 1911.

The meditation center is a place for learning and exchanging Zen culture, with a multi-functional conference hall, nearly 100 rooms and a vegetarian restaurant that can accommodate 500 people at the same time. Its architecture is antique garden style, with patchwork roofs, simplicity and freshness, which will be organically integrated with the surrounding environment.
