West Lake Longjing eighteen old tea trees can only be picked once a year, picking time is usually between the Qingming Festival and Guyu Festival. The picked tea leaves have to be lightly kneaded and roasted by hand to become high-quality Longjing tea. Due to the very small annual production and high price, it is regarded as a prized possession for tea collectors and tea lovers at home and abroad.
In addition to being a tea collector's item, the eighteen old tea trees of Xihu Longjing are also representatives of Chinese tea culture; in 2008, one of them was selected as a gift tea for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, making it one of the most highly regarded tea varieties in recent years.
