How to choose "independent suspension" and "dependent suspension"?
Let's talk about independent suspension 1 and McPherson suspension first. At present, McPherson suspension used on the front wheels of automobiles is the most typical and simplest independent suspension. Its structure is to add a set of shock absorbers to the spiral spring, which can prevent the spring from moving horizontally when it is stressed, thus limiting the spiral spring to only absorb shock up and down. We can set the soft, hard and damping performance of McPherson suspension by adjusting the stroke and tightness of the shock absorber.
McPherson suspension firmly occupies the front wheel position of mainstream cars with the advantages of small size and simple structure, especially for some cars such as MINI and SMART, but the disadvantage is that it can not effectively restrain the lateral impact force, so McPherson suspension will have obvious "nodding" phenomenon when braking.
2. A common independent suspension with double wishbone hanging on the front wheel is double wishbone suspension, which is also called double A suspension because it looks like a fork or A shape.
This kind of suspension double wishbone can absorb and restrain the lateral force during the driving process of the car. We can also increase the lateral stiffness of the double wishbone by accurately adjusting the tire positioning parameters, and provide stronger lateral support for the car body, which can ensure that the wheels have sufficient excellent grip and clear road feel feedback during driving. Therefore, double wishbone suspension is also one of the favorite suspension types of many sports vehicles, such as Mazda's Ma Lao 6, Ferrari, Maserati and so on.
However, the cost of this suspension is much higher than that of McPherson suspension, and in order to have the best performance, it is necessary to set relatively complicated parameters, such as positioning suspension and four-wheel positioning. The complicated structure also brings it a lot of maintenance costs.
Multi-link independent suspension The "multi-link" in multi-link independent suspension generally refers to the suspension with more than four links, while the so-called two-link or three-link suspension is actually only a variant of McPherson suspension, which uses double ball joint springs as shock-absorbing strut suspension and changes the traditional lower triangular control arm into double links, so this suspension cannot be called multi-link suspension.
However, the design freedom of this suspension will be greater than that of McPherson suspension. It will separate the transverse and longitudinal forces, which will help to improve the life of the bushing and the ball hinge, and reduce the limited space for the wheel to turn inside the wheel arch, but the disadvantage is direct and heavy steering, that is, heavy direction.
Multi-link suspension is generally used on the rear wheel suspension of automobile, with at least four links, but some advanced cars also adopt multi-link structure on the front wheel. For example, the front and rear wheels of Audi A6L adopt a five-link independent suspension.
As we all know, the biggest advantage of this suspension is its high comfort. Each wheel jumps independently, which can keep the wheels close to the ground to the maximum extent, thus bringing enough driving grip, so that the multi-link independent suspension can meet the requirements of comfort and handling. This suspension is basically a necessary suspension type in high-end models.
However, the biggest disadvantage of multi-link independent suspension is that, like double wishbone, the cost is higher and the structure is more complicated, and this suspension will occupy more interior space. Therefore, if a car with a smaller body is equipped with a multi-link independent suspension, although this approach is well-intentioned, its rear lateral space will be greatly limited, such as Mazda 3, Honda Civic, Ford Focus and so on.
Finally, talk about semi-independent suspension. The most common semi-independent suspension is the torsion beam structure. It is a semi-independent suspension structure specially designed for automobile rear wheels. There are many names about torsion beam suspension, such as trailing arm dependent suspension and compound torsion beam semi-independent suspension. Although these are slightly different in structure, they all belong to torsion beam suspension.
Torsion beam suspension generally has no transverse stabilizer bar and no skeleton of front and rear axles, which makes the cost of torsion beam suspension much lower than that of independent suspension. However, some car companies will add some compensation strips to the torsion beam to increase the stiffness required for suspension torsion.
The wheels suspended by the torsion beam are almost rigidly connected with the car body, but only in terms of hydraulic shock absorbers and spiral springs, the effect of shock absorption is achieved after soft connection with the car body, while the variable cross-section beam that is not completely rigid will directly connect the left and right wheels.
Therefore, the torsion beam suspension is almost a whole. In the process of one wheel jumping, the other wheel will be affected accordingly, which makes the car body prone to a certain roll and makes people in the car feel obvious bumps, thus reducing the ride comfort.
However, the biggest advantage of torsion beam suspension is its simple structure, not occupying too much interior design, and ensuring a certain horizontal space in the rear row. When steering, the camber angle of the car body remains unchanged, and the shock absorber does not produce bending stress, which reduces the friction of the wheel.
Disadvantages: In addition to the comfort mentioned above, the phenomenon of brake nodding is obvious, and the handling at high speed is much worse than that of independent suspension.
To sum up, as mentioned at the beginning of the article, the characteristics of independent suspension and dependent suspension determine their respective costs, so the probability of buying a multi-link suspension for a car of about 654.38+ million is very small. After all, you can't want space and price as well as multi-link independent suspension.
In fact, whether or not to adopt independent suspension is really of little significance to the model of 10 million yuan. The quality of suspension is not only determined by its own structural characteristics, but also the level of suspension materials, parameter setting and soft and hard adjustment of car companies will directly determine the quality of suspension. Sometimes a good car company is not necessarily a semi-independent suspension, which is worse than your independent suspension.
