Mathematician Qiu Chengtong likes China's ancient poems very much, because he has been influenced by China culture since he was a child, and he is familiar with China classical literature such as A Dream of Red Mansions, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Historical Records.

Qiu Chengtong's father Qiu Zhenying is a philosophy professor, and his father often asks his son to recite ancient poems. When his father died, Qiu Chengtong was only 14 years old. In order to alleviate his grief, he worked hard and became a tutor to make a living.

As a result, the family fell into extreme poverty and was heavily in debt. Some relatives suggested that the children drop out of school to raise ducks to supplement the family, but Liang's sickly mother, 43, flatly refused and resolutely shouldered the burden of the family. After his 70-year-old mother died, Qiu Chengtong recalled that in order to catch up with his homework, he didn't get enough sleep and had to get up early for school. His mother's gentle and unbearable voice always makes him feel sad.

Qiu Chengtong is a model husband and a loving father. 1976, Qiu Chengtong married Guo Youyun, an applied physicist in Taiwan Province. His family moved to San Diego before him. Colleagues in the Institute were surprised to find that Qiu Chengtong used to sing Chinese songs on the phone every night. It turned out that he was singing a lullaby to the child. Now, both sons have grown up and studied biology. Qiu Chengtong pointed out, "The author wants them to be loyal."

Qiu Chengtong likes China's classical literature. When I was a teenager, I liked reading classic novels such as A Dream of Red Mansions and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, as well as historical books such as Historical Records and Hanshu. 1982 won the "Nobel Prize" in mathematics, and is one of the only two mathematicians in China who have won this honor so far.
