What is the custom of Tajik Oil Candle Festival?
On the first night of the Oil Candle Festival, the housewife will make two oil candles for everyone in the family to prepare the oil candles for going to the cemetery the next day. At night, put the prepared oil candles in a big basin filled with sand and light them. Family members sit around together, and parents call the roll one by one to ensure that family members are present. The whole family prayed to the oil candle in order to eliminate disasters and reduce happiness. After the prayer ceremony, everyone shared holiday food. The next day, neighbors and new friends visit each other to show their respect, and the host family will entertain them with snacks. Since it is a festival, singing and dancing are indispensable. Riding horses and herding sheep are common activities.
After the memorial service, people who came to the same cemetery to sacrifice gathered the food they brought and distributed it equally to everyone present by respected people. Tajiks pay attention to slaughtering sheep on the roof and bleeding sheep on the walls.
