To make it easier to study, people divide the starry sky into regions, which are called constellations. China has long divided the sky into three walls and twenty-eight constellations. The Shiji Tianguanshu (Book of the Heavenly Officials) is quite detailed. Sanqian is the three regions around the north celestial pole, namely, Ziweiqian, Taiweiqian and Tianshiqian. The twenty-eight constellations are the 28 regions near the ecliptic, namely, the seven eastern constellations: Horn, Hyper, Clan, Room, Heart, Tail, and Kei; the seven northern constellations: Doo, Ox, Female, Void, Dangerous, Chamber, and Wall; the seven western constellations: Kui, Lou, Stomach, Pleiades, Bi, Chou, and Sam, and the seven southern constellations: Jing, Ghost, Willow, Star, Zhang, Wing, and Vajing. Around 3000 BC, the Babylonians divided the brighter stars into "constellations". The ancient Greeks named their constellations after mythological characters or animals. By the second century A.D., Greek astronomers had largely settled on the names of the constellations in the northern sky. The 48 constellations in the southern sky were not gradually determined until the 16th century after the success of the circumnavigation of the globe and the observation of the navigators. 1841 J.F. Herschel proposed the constellation boundaries to be divided by the equinoctial meridian and equinoctial latitude line. 1928, the International Astronomical Union announced a program of 88 constellations and stipulated that the equinoctial meridian and equinoctial latitude line, which were benchmarked against the equinoctial equinoctial point of 1875 and the equator, would serve as the boundary of the constellations. The whole day is divided into 88 constellations, some of which are very large and some are very small.
