Why does the United States want to grab traditional manufacturing?
As far as the overall flow of global manufacturing industry is concerned, the United States and other developed countries lead in high-end manufacturing industry, China is in the middle reaches and climbing to a higher value chain, and labor-intensive manufacturing industries are shifting to countries and regions with lower labor costs.
The prospect of the revitalization or "return" of American manufacturing industry in the future still depends on technological innovation. The key emerging technologies affecting the future manufacturing industry include industrial robots and automation technology, overlay manufacturing technology (or 3D printing technology), advanced design, Internet of Things technology, materials science, biotechnology, energy production and so on. These technologies may improve the level of domestic manufacturing in the United States, but how many new jobs can be created is still unknown.
