The satellite independently developed by Nanjing University was successfully launched. What does this mean?

It means that, on the basis of cooperation between this satellite and the subsequent series of satellites, all participating research units will collaborate in innovation, carry out the whole chain and systematization of basic research and engineering application, and make contributions to enhancing China's independent innovation ability in space astronomy, deep space exploration, space remote sensing and other fields, breaking through the key technologies of space load and promoting the transformation of advanced scientific and technological achievements into new instruments and equipment.

The satellite is equipped with a self-developed lobster eye focused X-ray detector and a high-precision small loading platform. During its long-term on-orbit work, it will verify the large field of view focusing imaging technology of X-ray energy segment and complete a number of important space X-ray detection experiments, especially the depth detection of dark matter signals in X-ray energy segment.

The "Lobster Eye X-ray Detection Satellite" was led by the School of Astronomy and Space Science of Nanjing University, and was successfully developed in five years in cooperation with the excellent teams in the field of space science and space exploration in China, such as the Space Research Laboratory of HKU, 508 China Aerospace Group Co., Ltd. and 805 Eis Aerospace Science and Technology Co., Ltd.

X-ray imaging technology based on the principle of lobster eye focused light was put forward in the 1970s, which has the advantages of large field of view, small volume, light weight and easy integration, and is suitable for space load applications. "Lobster Eye X-ray Detection Satellite" will be the first international space exploration satellite working in orbit and applying lobster eye focused X-ray technology.

Its core load is provided by Nanjing University with technical guidance, and 508 institutes and China Building Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd. jointly tackle key problems and develop it. Professor Li Zhiyuan from the School of Astronomy and Space Science of Nanjing University and Professor Su Meng from the Space Research Laboratory of Hong Kong University are sponsors of this project.
