In terms of time, depending on whether the rehabilitation target is an inpatient or an outpatient, the assessment can be conducted at different times, and is generally divided into the initial assessment, the mid-term assessment, and the late assessment.

The initial assessment, also known as the first assessment, is usually completed at the beginning of the patient's hospitalization (no later than 7 days after admission).

The purpose of this assessment is to understand the patient's functional status and degree of impairment, to understand the potential for rehabilitation and the factors that may affect it, and to serve as a basis for determining rehabilitation goals and formulating a rehabilitation treatment plan.

The mid-term evaluation, also known as re-evaluation, is usually conducted in the middle of the treatment.

For patients with slow recovery, long duration of illness, or outpatients, the evaluation can be conducted once every 3 to 4 weeks. Interim assessment can be carried out several times, the purpose of the interim assessment is to understand the function of the improvement and its degree of improvement, and to decide whether to the original goal and/or plan for the late assessment, also known as the final assessment, at the end of the rehabilitation treatment.

The purpose is to know whether the rehabilitation effect has reached the expected goal, and to strive to return to the family and society or to make recommendations for further rehabilitation.
