Brief Introduction of the Author of Mustard Seed Garden

"Mustard Seed Garden" Author: Wang Jue (date of birth is unknown), formerly known as Kun, once changed, also a beggar, named Dong Guo, named An Jie, Xiushui (now Jiaxing). Long-term residence in Jiangning (now Nanjing, Jiangsu). Wang almost learned landscape painting from Gong Xian (1618-1689). He is good at drawing large blocks and turquoise.

Wang is almost good at printing, bamboo carving and poetry. He is famous for "Tang Paper Fu". In the forty-fourth year of Emperor Kangxi (1705), he wrote "Taking Wisdom and Drawing Patterns", which is now in the Palace Museum.

The Dictionary of Artists' Surnames in China says that his works: "Heroes are quick to seize power, pale and strong, but insufficient to rush. People, flowers, feathers and the like all have flavor. " Wang Jue enjoys a great reputation in the history of Chinese painting, mainly at Shen's request, and based on Li's sketches in the Ming Dynasty, he took the lead in compiling "The Mustard Garden, an Atlas of China's Painting Techniques".

At the request of Li Yu's son-in-law, Shen, Wang, together with his younger brother, almost completed the Painting Biography of Mustard Garden on the basis of 43 paintings of Li Yuan, a painter in the late Ming Dynasty, which was later engraved and published with Li Yu's help.

Wang is famous in the history of painting in China. At the age of thirty-five, at Shen's request, based on Li's paintings in the Ming Dynasty, he compiled the Landscape Collection for Biography of Mustard Garden, and took the lead in compiling the Atlas of Painting Techniques in China-Mustard Garden.

In the 18th year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (1679), the first set of Landscape Spectrum, with 5 volumes, was overprinted, which was famous for its artistic forest. In the second episode, there are forty orchids, bamboos, plums and chrysanthemums, with a total of eight volumes, painted by Zhu Sheng and Wang Zhi, and discussed with his brothers Wang Gui and Wang Gang. The three episodes are flowers, grass insects, flowers, trees and birds, with 2 scores and 4 volumes, compiled and drawn by the Wang brothers. The second and third episodes were all overprinted with woodcut color in the forty years of Kangxi. The four episodes of Portrait of Characters were compiled by the book company in the 23rd year of Jiaqing (18 18) with the characters in Gao Ding's Secret of Portrait and Painting Biography of Late Laughing Hall as the materials.

During the Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, Chao Xun (Jiaxing native) copied and added Mustard Garden, which was published in Shanghai lithographs and widely circulated. Mustard Garden systematically introduces the basic laws of Chinese painting. Although there are some mistakes, it is simple and clear, which is convenient for beginners to refer to.
