Roadmap for harvesting wheat

1. Hand harvesting. When ripe, harvest with a sickle. One person can harvest one acre of land in a day.

2. Machine harvesting. Most of the combine harvesters used nowadays are fast and easy with specialized technicians.

Wheat is a temperate, long-sun plant with a wide range of adaptability, from 17° to 50° north latitude, and from the plains to the plateau at an altitude of about 4,000m (e.g. Tibet, China).

Annual herb, 30~120 cm tall. Leaf sheaths glabrous; tongues membranous, very short; leaves flattened lanceolate, 10-20 cm long, 5-10-20 cm wide. Spike cylindrical, erect, 5-10 cm long, ca. 1 cm wide, with a spikelet at each node of the rachis; spikelets ca. 10 cm long, containing 3-5 small cheese, flattened on both surfaces, lateral to the inflorescence axis, sessile; glumes ovoid, subleathery, with a ridge at the middle and extending apically into a short tip or awn; lemmas compressed-globose, awnless or awned at the apex; palea almost as long as the lemma, with 2 ridges. Caryopsis ovoid or oblong, apically shortly hairy, ventrally longitudinally grooved, readily separated from lemma. Flowering from July to September. Caryopsis large, oblong, apically hairy, with deep longitudinal grooves on ventral hood, not attached to lemma, easily detached.
