Names and customs of traditional festivals in China

First, the first month-Spring Festival

Spring Festival is the first day of the first lunar month, also known as lunar calendar, commonly known as "Chinese New Year". Customs include: sweeping dust, pasting Spring Festival couplets, stick grilles, pasting blessings, setting off firecrackers, observing the New Year, and greeting the younger generation with lucky money.

February and April-Tomb-Sweeping Day

Tomb-Sweeping Day, also known as the outing festival, is a season of beautiful spring and lush vegetation from April 4th to 6th every year according to the solar calendar. Customs include: hiking, sweeping graves and planting trees.

March and May-Dragon Boat Festival

The fifth day of the fifth lunar month is a traditional folk festival in China-Dragon Boat Festival. The customs of Dragon Boat Festival include rowing dragon boats, eating zongzi, inserting wormwood and calamus, and drinking realgar wine.

April and July-Valentine's Day in China.

On the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, people usually call it China Valentine's Day, and some people call it "Begging Clever Sister's Day" or "Daughter's Day". The custom is as follows: girls thread needles, make small items and put some melons and fruits on them to show their cleverness.

May and August-Mid-Autumn Festival

August 15th of the lunar calendar is the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival. Customs include: enjoying the moon and eating moon cakes.

June and September-Double Ninth Festival

The ninth day of the ninth lunar month is the Double Ninth Festival, and the customs are: climbing mountains, enjoying chrysanthemums, drinking chrysanthemum wine, eating double ninth cake and inserting dogwood. With the development of society, this day is still a day to respect the elderly, and people are organized all over the country to visit and sympathize with the elderly.
