Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new method of treating tumor diseases with photosensitive drugs and laser activation. Irradiating the tumor site with a specific wavelength can activate the photosensitive drugs that selectively gather in the tumor tissue, triggering a photochemical reaction to destroy the tumor. The photosensitizing drug in next-generation photodynamic therapy (PDT) transfers energy to the surrounding oxygen, generating highly active singlet oxygen. Monomorphic oxygen can react with nearby biomolecules in an oxidative manner, generating cytotoxicity and thus killing tumor cells. The advantage of PDT over traditional tumor therapies is that it is precise and effective, and the side effects of this therapy are minimal.
