Maoming's special festivals?
According to Huang Gang, director of Maoming Municipal Bureau of Culture and Broadcasting, the annual art festival is a special festival in Maoming. The main purpose is to pray for good weather, prosperity, peace and security. It was very popular in Qing dynasty. In a village for the New Year, people from the surrounding villages will come to watch the fun, and every household will have a big banquet. Whether you know it or not, you will be warmly treated with tea, rice, wine and vegetables. Every year, the streets of villages and towns are decorated with lanterns, and activities such as wandering gods, swimming lanterns, lighting, lion fighting, dragon dancing, floating colors, eight tones, martial arts, performing big dramas (Cantonese operas), puppet shows and setting off fireworks and firecrackers are held all night. However, each village's "Nian" has its own special programs, such as Piaose in Xinyi, puppet show in Gaozhou, drama in Dianbai, unicorn dance, flower-jumping shed in Huazhou and Maogang's one-man show. Maoming's annual peak of the lunar calendar is from the first day of the first month to the third month of the lunar calendar, so the performance is also called "Spring Class". According to the person in charge of Maoming Performance Company, there were more than 160 performing arts groups in Maoming last year (excluding local small performing arts groups), including more than 80 Cantonese Opera Troupe, 20 Song and Dance Troupe and 2 Acrobatic Troupe 12. More than 3,200 performances and more than 3.5 million person-times. Therefore, some people say that Maoming's "Spring Class" activities have supported Guangdong, Guangxi and Guangdong Opera Troupe and a large number of literary and art groups.
