Agricultural Development in Hemudu Town

Hemudu Town is located in Yaodong, with high terrain in the south and low terrain in the north. Yaojiang and Cijiang run through the whole territory, and the northern plain is surrounded by water, with low terrain. The traditional agricultural rice engaged by farmers has long been restricted by "rotten paddy fields", and the output has always been low, making it difficult for farmers to increase their income. During the Ninth Five-Year Plan period, Hemudu, in accordance with the requirements of industrial restructuring and accelerating the development of high-efficiency agriculture, vigorously developed the production of water bamboo according to local conditions with the strong support of the higher party committees and governments and relevant departments. After five years' efforts, the planting area of Zizania latifolia increased from 4,000 mu at the beginning of the Ninth Five-Year Plan to 20,000 mu at the end of the Ninth Five-Year Plan. The water bamboo industry has gradually replaced the grain industry and become an effective way for farmers in Hemudu Town to get rich and run towards a well-off society. According to statistics, during the Ninth Five-Year Plan period, Hemudu planted 60,000 mu of water bamboo, and its annual income has exceeded 654.38 billion yuan. Hemudu Zizania latifolia has become a regional characteristic economy of agriculture in Yaodong area with its unique charm, and has now become an important pillar industry of agriculture in Yuyao City.
