Colorful Wuxi Xixiu Culture
Tin embroidery, the abbreviation of Wuxi embroidery in Jiangsu. Wuxi, near Suzhou, is located in the beautiful south of the Yangtze River and on the shore of Taihu Lake, with beautiful scenery and outstanding people. Since ancient times, it has been a land of plenty and is one of the important embroidery producing areas in Jiangsu. As early as the middle of the Ming Dynasty, tin embroidery was presented to the court as a tribute. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, there was a saying that "it is known not only by Chinese people, but also at home and abroad". It was once more beautiful than Suzhou embroidery. At that time, it was pointed out that tin embroidery was "better than pavilion embroidery and Suzhou embroidery was better".
After thousands of years of precipitation, Wuxi embroidery has formed a relatively complete theoretical system, forming 10 kinds of embroidery methods, such as single-sided embroidery, horsehair cut embroidery, overlapping embroidery, shifting embroidery, hair embroidery, board embroidery, double-sided fine embroidery, etc. Among them, horsehair cut embroidery is a unique traditional embroidery method of Wuxi embroidery, and double-sided fine embroidery is another characteristic stitch method of tin embroidery, which has been lost for thousands of years. There are more than 30 kinds of stitches in tin embroidery, such as front grasping, back grasping, flat sleeve, loose sleeve, osmanthus fragrans, scaling, disorderly needle, etc ... People have to marvel at the richness and diversity of tin embroidery skills.
With the help of calligraphy and painting, tin embroidery gradually moved towards "Chun Xue" in the development process, and also formed the characteristics of "no painting and no embroidery". Wuxi embroidery is closely combined with the art of calligraphy and painting. Tin embroidery constantly draws nutrition from calligraphy and painting, expands its own theme and artistic connotation, and embodies the "grand scene" of China traditional painting without painting or embroidery. The embroidery draft of tin embroidery comes from painting and calligraphy, but it is different from painting and calligraphy. Various embroidery methods and changeable stitches make tin embroidery have unique ornamental and artistic value.
