Zhou Xun's new film Silence is just a waste? The director doesn't see it that way.

The film Silence was filmed as early as 15, but it took four years to be released. After the release, the box office has not broken 20 million. Cat's Eye estimated that the final box office was around 25 million, and Douban scored 5.8, passing.

Director Zhou has a lot to say, a lot to say. In her eyes, where are the problems? We must start from scratch.

First of all, she 18 years old was admitted to drama, won the prize of 654.38+10,000 yuan, and then stayed in school as a teacher.

There are stories in the drama, and many people know that they are studying drama, not movies.

Although there will be a drama (film and television) director major when enrolling students.

I come from Sichuan. I actually studied science in high school. At that time, my goal was to take an examination of Tsinghua.

One day, when everyone was resting, suddenly a classmate saw a small gap in the newspaper, with an enrollment brochure of Shanghai Opera on it, where everyone was discussing what Shanghai Opera was.

At that time, my family subscribed to popular movies, so I probably remember that Pan Hong graduated from Shanghai Theatre Academy and filmed "Man to Middle Age", and later filmed "Crazy Stock" in Yongjia Road, Shanghai.

So I said at that time that the last play was a movie!

In fact, for me, I especially want to travel, thinking about what career I can travel around for free, crew! I think it's good to make a movie. At that time, I made a bet with my classmates that I was admitted to the drama.

Classmates say it is impossible for you to pass the exam. You haven't studied anything, and you don't know anything about the contents of the professional exam written on it.

What if I say I'm going to be admitted?

I admit to frying fish for you with my palm. In Sichuan dialect, frying fish with your palm means absolutely not.

Later, I went to Xi 'an for an exam, and there was no test center in Sichuan. Once a year, Wuhan this year, Harbin next year and Jinan the year after. 1993 is Xi 'an.

If you pass the exam, you will be admitted. I think I'm going to make a movie!

When I got to school, I found out that this was a play!

I think most children in drama schools have this experience, and the gap is a bit big. what can I do? Learn first.

Our class is a special class. The oldest one was 28 when he entered school. I was only 18 years old. Among my classmates, there are a wave of 18 years old, a wave of 20 years old, and a wave of 22, 25 and 26.

I found that their older classmates always ran to the office, closed the door, secretly borrowed videos and participated in movies. I don't know anything. At that time, I thought I was studying secretly behind my back, and my heart was particularly unbalanced. I don't think these older children took us.

Later, I learned that they were watching movies, mostly European and American movies, or banned movies.

The most interesting thing is that Sleeping with Madonna or Seducing Monks and Instinct are shown in public in the whole school. Everyone is on the first floor of the library, and all departments and grades are watching and moving a small bench.

The problem is that when the camera appeared, everyone sat up as if nothing had happened, hahaha. I thought turning on the lights, the scene was like a comedy, especially funny.

At that time, we were hungry for these movies.

After my freshman year, I realized that I had to practice.

Because of the limited economic conditions at home, you have to support yourself when you go to college, and you can't ask for money from home.

I have to earn money.

At that time, there were very few crews. I remember I was a reporter, working with some small short film crews and TV crews.

For example, Holy Sunshine, a short play about law, lasts 15 to 20 minutes per episode.

Special thanks to a person who joined a cast in my sophomore summer vacation. The director's name is Shen Yue.

One of the plays he made that year was called "Rich Clothes". In Dalian, he talked about clothes. Dalian was then known as the fashion capital, played by Dahongni and He Bing.

I started by changing the script, then taking notes, making announcements, editing and dubbing later. I think I am very suitable for the life of the crew.

I have been out for a few months, and I am very happy to run around.

When I graduated, everyone was looking for a job, but I couldn't find any. I am bent on drifting north and going to Beijing. I firmly believe that I can find a job in Beijing.

My goal is to be a film director.

But life is actually wonderful, and you can't plan it.

At that time, everyone was preparing to drift north. Suddenly one day, my head teacher called me to the office and told me that we were going to let you stay at school. what do you think?

I don't know why I was chosen. It is strange that I am not the best in our class.

I analyzed it later. When I was in the third year of senior high school, I once rode my bike by the school gate and dropped a small black plastic bag. When I picked it up, it was about 654.38+ million, so I gave it to the school security office.

As a result, people came back and found it.

Later, the school gave me an evaluation of a good student who didn't know how to collect money. Everyone thinks I am a trustworthy person with a good personality.

Is that what this is about? Maybe. It is still a mystery.

Since the teacher trusts me so much, I will stay at school.

Of course, my parents think that being a teacher is stable and they can get a hukou if they stay in Shanghai, but Beipiao has no hukou.

I want to stay and teach for a year and then sneak away.

But later, because the first students I brought were all two to four years old, almost the same as their peers. After teaching for a year, I suddenly feel how to leave them behind and bring out my feelings.

Then take it for four years until they graduate.

In a flash, four years, four years, four years have passed.

At that time, I also opened a theater called Ke Contemporary Art Center, the first private theater in Shanghai, which opened for three years.

My initial idea was to make a theater and raise a group of actors, who acted here. I don't have to eat or wear. Training every day and performing at night. Like utopia, it's idealistic.

It turned out to be too difficult.

We didn't understand the policy at that time. When the theater is established, the name of your theater must be hung on that business license to sell tickets.

We couldn't get the business license at that time, so we kept filling in money, paying rent and raising people, but we couldn't sell tickets.

That is to say, we made a play in Ke Contemporary Art Center, renting a theater outside, then performing, and then using the money we earned to supplement the rent here.

Think about how uncomfortable it is, especially tired.

After three years, I really sold the house and had no money to post it. I am exhausted.

I just want to leave Shanghai. I don't want to do this. I have to leave.

Everyone tried to persuade me to do so. If I can't convince them, I want to do it. Halfway through the work, I want to go, and everyone supports you to go, because I think it's useless for you to stay.

I first went to Dali, Yunnan, rented a yard, and planned to be a homestay owner and retire to the countryside.

Stay, a friend of mine called me and said they were going to make a musical "Mom loves me again".

I'm back on track.

This song "Mother loves me again" is based on 20 1 1 Pudong airport mother's knife wounding incident. There is a movie in Taiwan Province Province called "Mom loves me again". The producer loved it and bought the copyright, but our story has nothing to do with the film.

That case left a deep impression on me. At the same time, I was also a mother-my children were born at the same time as the theater, really, I gave birth to two children at the same time-and I felt as if I should do something.

"Mom loves me again" was originally arranged in Beijing, and performed more than 50 performances in Shanghai on 20 13, and then toured the whole country, which was very popular and won the "Five One Project Award".

At that time, a producer saw "Mom loves me again" and said, can it be changed into a movie?

I said yes, and then I changed it to a movie script.

But it is completely different from the stage play, and it also combines some social news at the time of 20 14.

That year, many cities opened an abandoned baby island, which was a small house with constant temperature and some water and food. It is the welfare organization that takes in those abandoned babies.

Some children just throw the abandoned baby into the toilet and leave it in the wild because they are worried that it will be hurt again, and the child is likely to die. Now that I've decided to throw it away, I'll throw it on the abandoned baby island. At least he can still live.

But unfortunately, this abandoned baby island was controversial and closed less than a month after its opening.

This also exposes another problem. Since parents have the courage to give birth to children, why can't they support them?

And these abandoned children may be a bomb in the future.

Just like many left-behind children now have a higher crime rate, because they have no companionship since childhood and can't get a normal emotional support.

So there is the story of silence now.

At that time, after writing the script, the producer went out to find a circle of directors, but he couldn't find them. When he comes back, ask me, you also learn to direct. You want to shoot?

I said, then I can try. At that time, my heart was full of joy, but I had to pretend, hahahaha.

Then we asked Ma Chucheng to be our producer.

I was writing the third draft when Ma Chucheng came. After watching it, he asked me a question, saying that you want to make a commercial film or a literary film?

Does it matter if I say so?

He said it was important. Do you want to do your own thing completely or consider the audience?

On second thought, I think we should make a commercial film. Because literary films are all about winning prizes, what if they don't win prizes?

But from my own drama, I know what the audience wants. Although there are few plays, I know very well that your play must be completed with the audience in the theater. The pressure is also great. This is the first time.

I like Ma Chucheng's film Sweet Honey, and he also made Heart to Heart. I think he is a very soft-hearted person with a delicate heart. It is a good thing to have an elder tell you his experience.

He said I gave you my opinion, and it's your decision whether to change it or not. He didn't force me to do anything.

In the process of shooting, he will be there for important scenes, because he is a photographer and really has many suggestions for shooting.

After we cut the first edition, it was not ideal.

Ma Dao gave very good advice. It turned out that we started with that case, and Wan was murdered in the theater. He said, can we put the scene of sending children to foster families at the beginning?

I think this is a very good suggestion, which suddenly sets the tone, that is, some fateful things between mother and son.

As an actor, Zhou Xun was the best person in my mind from the beginning. The producer just went to her with the script. She just watched the news and always wanted to do such a play.

Zhou Xun plays two roles by himself. At the beginning, the script didn't say that, so he wrote that they were very similar.

She plays Duan Mulan, a lawyer. But wan looked for it and many people couldn't find it. Wan's character is like Ai Jing, a small city in the north, and then suddenly he gets angry and then he is out of breath.

I forgot whether the producer or Ma Chucheng suggested it. Why doesn't Zhou Xun also play this role? I have this idea, but I dare not mention it.

First of all, I'm not sure whether Zhou Xun will be interested in Wan. Wan does have the shadow of if love, and I feel that she will refuse. Then Zhou Xun agreed, put on special makeup and gained a little weight.

Wan He and Duan Mulan are like a reincarnation, like a baton. They are the women behind, learning from the women in front. Wan's "mistake" was finally "corrected" by Duan Mulan.

I believe in reincarnation, just like that orphan Jimmy, who finally chose to jump off a building. Will his soul? Duan Mulan's child is Jimmy's rebirth.

When the tragedy happened, there were places where everyone seemed particularly unreasonable, especially places that were not in line with human relations. But if you look back, you will find that the root cause is that we can't stop the tragedy before it happens.

I think it still depends on whether this society can care for strangers, or care for someone who seems to have nothing to do with you.

In fact, you will find that men are absent from marriage and family.

Some dads just play mobile phones and games at home, but in the process of this child's growth, you find that more and more boys have become "sissy".

Because he has no father's specimen, he has no role model. This is why Nezha is so popular now.

Silence was filmed on 20 15, edited in June and July, and is scheduled to be released on 20 16.

Because it was a tripartite cooperation between the Central News Recording Film Studio and Xun Guangnian, and there was light. The production was completed by Xunguang-2000 and hatched in the central new film.

Later, the producer left, left the original unit, all the people who signed the contract left, and the central new film company changed its leadership.

When this happens, the film is a bit like the orphan Jimmy (Ray) in the story, completely abandoned, which is very similar to the fate of the characters in the play.

In fact, after the silence was cut off, it was out of my control. As for how to cure it, I don't know.

Of course I'm in a hurry, but you can't be in a hurry, because this matter has become that you don't know where to find this source and who will be responsible, so I say it is in a state of ill-fated and unloved.

I thought the movie would remain silent?

I am still very grateful to the department responsible for helping us publicize this time. Although they are young, they are very responsible. I think they also see the sense of social responsibility in the film, so they have been trying to do it from the aspects of social responsibility and emotion.

In fact, many people are also asking whether the film has been cut a lot.

Because this is my big screen debut, the producers are still worried and involved. In fact, when I was filming, many dramas told me that I had no time or money to delete.

Then, during editing, some very important scenes were deleted in order to compress them to 90 minutes.

This kind of influence is of course considerable.

For example, Jimmy and Wan had a mother recognition scene in the villa, so he deleted it. If he doesn't delete it, the audience won't understand and will ask Jimmy where he got the luxury villa.

In fact, the two of them had a process of understanding there.

There are also scenes of children being abused by adoptive parents, including that he was locked in a dark room, which led to claustrophobia. For the first time, he saw the young Wan Sicheng beside him. It was actually an illusion, the first manifestation of his dual personality.

There is also a psychological test for Jimmy. Lawyer Duan Mulan is monitoring next door. Jimmy recalled being abused as a child, so Duan Mulan said in court that Jimmy had psychological problems. Now we just look at it very simply.

There are many emotional preparations, which add up to about 20 minutes.

What is a little worrying is that its initial positioning is suspense and court debate, but in fact it is not the film itself, but just a shell.

I think many viewers were not satisfied after watching it, because they regarded it as a suspense film at first, but later found that the suspense was not that heavy, and he felt cheated.

We didn't mean to. It was a misunderstanding.

When we were on the road show, we targeted at some audiences, such as lawyers, legal workers, social workers, teachers and mothers, so the feedback they got when they watched it was actually different from the feedback we got when we showed it.

After it was released, it was because its audience was very multi-level. People who like to watch The Fast and the Furious are really tortured if they want to get into this movie.

It has a lot of things that need the audience's brain to make up for, and even take the initiative to participate in the conception. We should mobilize some of our own life experience. This is not a direct gift. So maybe the whole movie will be more rational.

Yesterday, something happened. It's getting late. Suddenly, a person on my WeChat asked me if you directed Silence?

I forget when I added this person. Maybe I have never interacted with him.

I know she became a monk. She talked with me for a long time, saying that she took her 80-year-old mother and two people, probably traveling somewhere, and wanted her mother to find a place to sit down and have a rest, so she went into the cinema and chose the movie Silence.

After watching it, she interpreted the film from the perspective of Buddhism. For a while, I got goose bumps all over.

I am very touched. I'm not a Buddhist myself, but it's interesting to be seen by some people who are destined to have a dialogue and emotion.

I think there is nothing wrong with Douban score. First, I never care about the so-called score, no matter which platform. It's like saying that I never believe in true democracy, especially when it has a huge base.

I don't think it will bother me either. I might give myself a lower score than this.

I will also read those comments, both good and bad. I also filter, such as likes and fan comments. You can see the professional form behind it and his educational level. I will distinguish it, because there are many blind ratings in the good ones.

I can accept some bad reviews, such as the plot is relatively dull, the court debate is not intense enough, or the lens language problem, which I think is acceptable.

I know exactly which emotions are not well played, as I said just now, and why.

But some are obviously marked with emotional scores, and some are so-called unintelligible because of their experiences and life experiences?

Just like a girl we met on a roadshow, she asked, why do orphans in orphanages bully each other? School bullying certainly exists, but it's all bullying by the rich to the poor. Everyone is an orphan. Why do we bully people? This is unreasonable.

I can't explain it to her. I can only say that you are very happy and I wish her well.

He also said that the logic was chaotic and the story was not clear. I don't admit this, because I think its logic is very strict.

Many people, including me, ask why the suspect Jimmy was released before the murderer was found.

Because the film involves local laws in Hong Kong. I also consulted many lawyers, then read books, read the Basic Law, and read the laws and regulations of criminal procedure, but I still studied them.

There is a very important principle of presumption of innocence in Hong Kong law. Presumption of innocence means that although you are brought to court by the procuratorate, we have the right to think that you are innocent, because we can only sentence you if you are proved guilty. What Duan Mulan wants to do is, "I want to force the police and the prosecution to produce evidence that can prove Jimmy's innocence."

For example, if you say that he killed someone, and you say that you have his fingerprints, I can say that someone else gave them to him. You say he has blood, I can also say that he is a third kind of person.

And I can say that there may be a third person, but as for who the third person is and how he got in, that's the responsibility of your police, not mine. My lawyer is only responsible for explaining this possibility to the jury and the judge.

The civil law system is different from the common law system. Do you think it is reasonable? In fact, this case was tried in the film for a year or two, and a murder case occurred in 20 13, and Jimmy was found jumping off a building in 20 15.

I think that is to say, as a director, if there is a second film, the right to speak is very important.

And then there's a producer who understands you.

I read your interview with Chen Xiaoming (72 hours in the school district) before, because he and I were classmates in the play.

I saw it at the screening. That was the first time I met Feng Yong (producer of 72 Hours on Campus). She has always understood and sympathized with the director, supported him and supported him all the way. This comrade-in-arms relationship is very important.

To say that movies lose money, I think so. All people, in this matter, are actually taking their own responsibilities. Investment is risky. I'm not saying that I really said that it must make money.

So I think investors probably understand this truth, otherwise why do you want to invest?

So I objectively evaluate this matter, but I don't want the team to take the blame. I don't think it's a team.

I can only say objectively that what happened today and what has happened is objective.

When the movie goes offline, I think I will write a summary. You don't have to send it, just repeat it from beginning to end.

I think the film is not good, or its final result is not good, because it can't be done. I don't think so. It's collective labor.

I never thought the film was a director's work, so you will see that my name is actually very small in the film.

I think everyone is very serious about this matter, at least that's what I've been exposed to. Just as we are in a project, there will always be successes and failures, which is the same.

And I personally don't think it's a failure.

I can only say that I haven't met enough viewers who like and appreciate it.
