The fault block mountain structure of Lushan Mountain during the Ice Age
The cliff landforms can be seen everywhere around Lushan Mountain. After entering the Pleistocene, Quaternary glacial activities occurred in Lushan Mountain. Due to the erosion of Quaternary glaciers, many ice-eroded landforms such as cirques, ice cellars, U-shaped valleys, ice ridges, ice steps, ice blade ridges and horn peaks have appeared throughout the mountain. The superposition of tectonic movement and ice erosion makes Mount Lushan appear more majestic and dangerous. "Looking across the horizon, there are ridges and peaks, different in height and distance. I don't know the true face of Mount Lu, just because I am in this mountain." This familiar poem by the ancient Chinese poet Su Dongpo is a vivid portrayal of the unique geological landscape of Mount Lu. Because Lushan has a subtropical climate with four distinct seasons, abundant rainfall, and strong water erosion. The dense vertical shear joints in the rocks are affected by water erosion and gravity, and many glacial U-shaped valleys are gradually transformed into deep barrier valleys and lane valleys. The combination of valleys, cliffs and flowing water forms dozens of famous springs and waterfalls all over the mountain: there is the Xianglufeng Waterfall, which was described by the Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai as "flying down three thousand feet, suspected to be the Milky Way falling from the sky". The fascinating Sandiequan, Wulongtan, and Huanglongtan waterfalls, as well as the medical mineral "hot springs" that have been developed and utilized since the Tang Dynasty... The forest coverage rate of Mount Lushan reaches 77%, of which Guling reaches 91%. It has abundant rainfall and good health. The vegetation makes Lushan as high as the water. The composite landform landscape formed by the three geological processes of fault block mountains, glacial erosion, and running water is another major geological feature of Mount Lushan.
