What does He Xiu's costume mean?
He Xiu's clothing generally adopts the embroidery method of tide embroidery, and the colors of embroidery lines are also varied, with great room for change. Chaozhou embroidery looks more exquisite than cloth embroidery, with flat stitches and unique flavor. He Xiu's costume comes from the folk. Although it is not as gorgeous as a dragon and phoenix coat, it has a feminine taste of a small jasper.
The pattern of He Xiu's clothes
In the past, it was mainly embroidered with auspicious patterns such as dragons and phoenixes, mandarin ducks and flowers. In 1950s, beaded ornaments and beaded dresses appeared. The pattern is dominated by dragons and phoenixes, which are homonyms of "auspicious" and "long-lasting", commonly known as "beaded robe".
In 1960s, embroidery with gold and silver thread was started. Besides dragons and phoenixes, five cute little bats were embroidered, which meant "five blessings". This kind of clothes and dresses are often called "Five Blessingg dresses".
Nowadays, the patterns on the gown are mainly dragons and phoenixes, decorated with "Fu", "Xi", peony flowers, mandarin ducks, bats, pomegranates and other patterns, which are auspicious and happy for a hundred years.
