What are the taboo colors in Thailand?
Thai culture is used to coloring dates: Sunday is red, Monday is yellow, Tuesday is pink, Wednesday is green, Thursday is orange, Friday is light blue and Saturday is purple.
This habit began in Dacheng Dynasty and originated from Indian mythology. Seven days a week, there is a star corresponding to it, represented by a god, and each god represents a different color.
According to historical records, the Bangkok dynasty continued the "color culture". The clothes worn by members of the royal family were one color every day from Monday to Sunday and never changed, otherwise they would degrade themselves and be regarded as civilians or hillbillies. The upper class followed suit one after another, until Thailand changed the monarchy to a constitutional monarchy and western clothing prevailed, and this custom gradually faded.
Thais like to express themselves with colors. For example, almost all big banks in Thailand can be distinguished by color: Pangu Bank in Thailand is dark blue, Kaitai Bank in Thailand is green, and big banks are yellow. When you first arrive in Thailand, even if you can't remember the name of the bank or store, people can immediately understand which one it is by describing the "color".
Thais don't need to sign their names with a red pen, because after death, Thais should write their surnames on the coffin mouth with a red pen. Thais prefer red and yellow to brown. People are used to using colors to indicate different dates: Sunday is red, Monday is yellow, Tuesday is pink, Wednesday is green, Thursday is orange, Friday is light blue and Saturday is purple. People often wear different colors according to different dates. White used to be used for funerals, but now it is changed to black.
