An Introduction to Traditional Chinese Culture

This book is a revised edition of the 1997 edition of Introduction to Traditional Chinese Culture. Although it is a revised edition, many of the chapters are almost rewritten. The reason is that, in the course of teaching with the original textbook for many years, we have constantly interacted with students and collected their feedback and suggestions on the course and the textbook, and we feel that it is necessary to revise the original textbook in order to better communicate with contemporary college students. In addition, with our in-depth study and research on various aspects of traditional Chinese culture, we have gained a better understanding and realization of the profound connotation of traditional culture, and we are willing to express this new gain and share it with students and readers***. A more important point is our sense of responsibility, which prompts us to pursue a higher level of academic excellence, so that we can be worthy of our ancestors who have left us this precious cultural heritage, and the young students who are thirsty for cultural knowledge.

The outline of this book was prepared by Wang Xinting, and the other two editors also made valuable comments on the enrichment and improvement of the outline. The division of labor in the writing of this book is as follows: Wang Xinting: Introduction, Chapter I, Chapter V, Chapter VI, Chapter VII, Chapter XI; Jin Mingjuan: Chapter II, Chapter IV, Chapter VIII, Chapter XII; Yao Eveningxia: Chapter III, Chapter IX, Chapter X. The whole book is finally unified by Wang Xinting. The book was finally reviewed and finalized by Wang Xinting in a unified manner.

In the process of writing this book, we have referred to and absorbed many contents and research results from similar textbooks and academics, and we would like to express our deep gratitude to the original authors. We would like to thank the China Forestry Press for providing us with a rare opportunity, and in particular, we would like to thank Liu Xianyin, the responsible editor of this book, without his strong encouragement and hard work, I am afraid that there is no second life for the original book.
