Excellent layout design will never come from a layout designer who only uses fonts and font sizes. It requires designers to have rich literacy, keen aesthetic view, creative way of thinking, certain artistic literacy and certain technical knowledge.

An excellent book layout designer compares the contents of books around the actual needs and uses the principle of formal beauty to operate the layout design. Pay equal attention to practicality and aesthetics, and design endless layout changes to make the books I handle vivid and colorful.

When designing the layout, the measures to highlight and strengthen the theme image are to express the theme from multiple levels and angles. For example, the front cover, back cover, front and back ring lining, catalogue, translation order, inscription and cover should have theme images, and each image should have different changes. Seek unity in change and further deepen the theme image.

According to the golden section ratio, leave a square equivalent to the golden section law, that is, the upper and lower lines are used as one piece, the other top column is left blank, and the upper and lower lines are left blank. Book eyebrows not only have the function of convenient retrieval, but also have the function of decoration. Generally, eyebrows only occupy one line, and they are only composed of horizontal lines and words. Using patterns as book eyebrows, although exaggerated, is still appropriate, which makes the characteristics of the performance object more distinct and prominent, and produces a surprising aesthetic feeling.

The page number of the book header breaks through the number five, and large letters are used to combine with the book header into an organic whole. After the pages are spread out, the double-code page and the single-code page take the sewing opening as the symmetry axis, and the two numbers are located at the top of the left and right incisions, which are far apart and stand symmetrically, making the book eyebrows jump, which is innovative and plays the role of adjusting the atmosphere of the book and making the finishing point.

Book layout design mainly has the following characteristics:

(1) Straight lines and couplets are traditional forms in China, and only straight lines can correspond to couplets.

(2) Imitate the couplets with the length of No.4 to make them exquisite and eye-catching and have the characteristics of traditional books; The title is in block letters No.3, deliberately highlighting the taste of China's calligraphy and handwriting; The author's name is Sihei, which is a modern font to imply that the authors of these couplets are contemporary.

(3) All pages of the book are surrounded by civil and military borders, because civil and military borders are one of the most distinctive forms of traditional books in China.

(4) The title of Shu Mei's book and the name of the scenic spot are written in the No.1 Pingshu Song. This font is not available in ancient times, and it is also intended to imply that this is a couplet written by contemporary people.

In all fairness, it is difficult to ask every designer to design every book with original layout design, but we should think hard for every book we design, but we should not be too demanding. It is difficult to ask every designer to have a keen sense of beauty in form. It is not unreasonable to consciously use the law of formal beauty to design. It is impossible to ask the layout design of every book to be put into painstaking efforts, but it is absolutely not allowed to be careless about the layout design of a book. ■
