Brief description of radial tires compared with ordinary tires have what characteristics of use

The outer tire is mainly composed of tread, cord ply, cushion ply and bead. Tire according to its structure (that is, the direction of the cord arrangement in the carcass) of the different (as shown in the figure below), can be divided into the following two kinds: ordinary bias tires, radial tires. The difference between the two are mainly as follows:

One, ordinary bias tires:

Ordinary bias tires for the inner tube of the ordinary bias tire structure, bias tires are mainly tread, cord fabric layer, cushioning ply and bead composition. Ordinary bias tire cord fabric ply and cushion ply each adjacent layer of cord cross, and with the tread center line is less than 90o angle arrangement.

1) tread: tread is the outer surface of the tire, including the crown, shoulder and sidewall three parts.

Crown: the crown is made of wear-resistant rubber, which directly bear the friction and all loads, can reduce the impact of the cord fabric layer. And protect the cord fabric layer and inner tube from mechanical damage. There are various concave and convex patterns on the tread to ensure the adhesion properties of the tire and the ground, and to prevent the tire from slipping. Tire tread pattern on the car performance has a very important impact, so in the selection of tires must pay enough attention to the tire tread.

Tire shoulder: tire shoulder is thicker tire crown and thinner sidewalls between the transition part. In addition to play a role in protecting the role of the cord fabric layer, the surface is generally made of a variety of patterns, in order to facilitate anti-skid and heat dissipation.

Sidewalls: sidewalls are attached to the sidewalls of the cord fabric layer of a thin layer of rubber, which can withstand greater distortion, its role is to protect the cord fabric layer from mechanical damage and water erosion.

2) Cordage layer The cordage layer is the skeleton of the outer tire, also known as the carcass. Its main role is to bear the load, maintain the shape and size of the tire, so that the tire has a certain strength. The cord ply is usually made up of several layers of rubberized cords bonded together with rubber. In order to make the load evenly distributed, the number of cord fabric layers is mostly even. The more layers of cord fabric, the greater its strength, but accordingly its elasticity is reduced. Generally, the number of layers of cord fabric is marked on the surface of the outer tire.

Cord material generally have cotton thread, rayon thread, nylon thread and steel wire and so on. Now more polyamide fibers and steel wire for the cord, in the case of the same tire carrying capacity of the cord fabric layers can be reduced, which reduces the consumption of rubber, improve the quality of the tire, but also reduces the rolling resistance, extend the service life of the tire.

3) cushioning layer cushioning layer is located between the tread and cord fabric layer, generally with two or more layers of sparse cord and elasticity of the rubber made of larger, so its elasticity is larger, and can ease the impact of the car in the exercise of the uneven road surface, and to prevent the car in the emergency braking tread and cord fabric layer detachment.

4) bead The bead consists of a steel wire ring, cord fabric ply wrapping and bead wrapping, has great rigidity and strength, can make the tire firmly mounted on the rim.

Two, radial tires:

The radial tire cord fabric ply and tread centerline was 90o angle or close to 90o angle arrangement, and the radial section of the cord fabric ply tires, very much like the earth's meridian, so it is called radial tires. As shown in Figure SS040011 for the construction of radial tires. Because of this arrangement of the characteristics of the cord fabric ply, so that the number of radial tire cord fabric ply than ordinary bias tires can be reduced by about 40% -50%. Radial tires in the circumferential direction only rely on rubber to contact, so in order to withstand the driving generated by the larger tangential force, to improve the rigidity of the tire, radial tires also have a number of layers of cords and meridian section at a greater angle (angle of 70-75), high strength, not easy to stretch the circumferential ring similar to the buffer belt belt bundle layer. The band bundle layer is generally high strength, tensile deformation is very small fabric curtain (such as glass fiber, polyamide fiber) or steel cord fabric manufacturing.

1)Advantages Compared with ordinary bias tires, radial tires have the following advantages:

Small rolling resistance, saving fuel: due to the belt ply, the tire landing crown tangential deformation and relative slip than ordinary tires are much smaller, and radial tires have thin sidewalls, radial deformation recovery quickly. These two features are conducive to reducing tire wear, reduce rolling resistance. Tests have proved that the rolling resistance of radial tires is 20% to 30% smaller than ordinary bias tires, saving 5% to 10% of fuel.

Tread wear resistance is good, long service life: wheel rolling, tire landing fox surface both deformation, and slip, deformation prompted by slip, slip and exacerbate tread wear. Due to radial tire crown rigidity, deformation is small, almost no slip, in addition to the crown ground area is large, the unit pressure is small and uniform, so the tread wear is reduced. Tests have proved that the service life of radial tires than bias tires to improve 30% to 40%.

Large elasticity, good cushioning: because the radial tire cord is radial arrangement, so the wheel rotation, tire perpendicular to the ground deformation than the bias tires, the carcass is soft, elasticity is good, so it improves the smoothness of the automobile driving.

Strong resistance to puncture: radial tires have a hard belt bundle layer, so it greatly enhances the crown's resistance to puncture, reducing the risk of tire blowout, improving the safety of driving.

Large adhesion: radial tires in the driving ground area is larger, at the same time due to the role of the belt bundle layer, ground pressure distribution is more uniform, thus improving the adhesion, reducing the phenomenon of skidding.

2)Disadvantages The main disadvantages of radial tires are:

The sidewalls are thin, easy to start cracks;

The sidewalls are deformed, lateral stability is poor;

The radial tires are manufactured with high requirements and high costs.
