Watermelon planting methods and techniques
1, watermelon planting technology
Accelerating germination: When accelerating germination, ensure that the temperature of accelerating germination is about 30℃. Wrap the treated watermelon seeds with soaked cloth. Observing the process of accelerating germination, it is determined that the embryo can be sown when it is 0.5cm long.
Seedling: Seeding watermelon can be divided into direct seeding and seedling transplanting. In the process of seedling raising and transplanting, nutrition pots should be used to avoid damaging the roots of plants as much as possible. Soil viscosity should be moderate, and decomposed cake fertilizer or farmyard manure can be used as fertilizer. The ratio of soil to fertilizer is 7: 3, and appropriate amount of phosphorus, potassium fertilizer and bactericide are added.
Sowing in time: Sowing can be done when the ground temperature in the planting area is above 65438 05℃, but the sowing time can also be selected according to the situation and planting method. Planting density depends on the variety. Generally speaking, the standard is 400 ~ 700 plants per 667m2.
2. Planting method of watermelon
Management of slow seedling stage: in slow seedling stage, if the amount of water planted is sufficient, don't water it. If the watermelon seedlings are relatively small, plastic film mulching and drilling should be carried out within 15d after planting to ensure that the seedlings can extend out of the plastic film, and appropriate amount of soil should be covered around them in time to control the temperature in the greenhouse within a reasonable range.
Management of vine extension period: control the temperature in the greenhouse, not exceeding 28℃ during the day and about 15℃ at night. Make sure that the water is poured completely and thoroughly. If the drought is severe, wait until the vines grow to about 40cm before watering. In order to improve the yield of watermelon, three-vine pruning can be used to press vines.
Growth environment and distribution range of watermelon
Watermelon likes warm and dry climate and is not cold-resistant. The optimum temperature for growth and development is 24-30 degrees, the optimum temperature for root growth and development is 30-32 degrees, and the lowest temperature for root hair generation is 14 degrees. Watermelon needs a large temperature difference between day and night during its growth and development. Watermelon is drought-tolerant and moisture-intolerant. Too many rainy days and too high humidity are easy to get sick.
Watermelon likes light, has a long growth period and needs a lot of nutrition. With the growth of watermelon, the fertilizer requirement increases gradually, and reaches the maximum when the fruit grows vigorously. Watermelon has strong adaptability, and sandy soil with loose soil, deep soil layer and good drainage is the best. Like weak acidity, pH5-7.
There are many cultivated varieties in China, with different exocarp, pulp and seed shapes, among which Xinjiang, Lanzhou, Gansu, Dezhou, Shandong and Liyang, Jiangsu are the most famous. Its original species may come from Africa, and it has been widely cultivated in tropical to temperate regions of the world for a long time, and was introduced to China in the Jin and Yuan Dynasties.
