The Story of a Few Boats on the River

There are only two boats on the river, one for fame and the other for profit. Legend has it that Emperor Qianlong visited an ancient temple and a very famous old monk in the temple to talk about Zen. Emperor Qianlong asked the old monk about the ships traveling on the Yangtze River, "Look at all the ships on the river, they come and go in an endless stream, how many of them are there in the end?" The old monk replied, "There are actually only two ships on this river." When Qianlong heard this, he found it strange and asked why. The old monk explained: "These ships come and go, bustling, is nothing but all for the name to come, or all for the profit to go, can not escape the word fame and profit, so this river is only two ships, one for the name, the other for the profit." Qianlong listened and nodded.
