What is the Confucian Shangshu also known as

The Confucian Shangshu, also known as the Book and the Book of Books, is China's first compilation of historical documents from the ancient past and some of the writings tracing ancient events. The Shangshu is divided into the Book of Yu, the Book of Xia, the Book of Shang, and the Book of Zhou. During the Warring States period, it was known as "The Book", and in the Han Dynasty, it was renamed "The Book of Shangshu", i.e. "The Book of the Ancient World". Because it is one of the five Confucian classics, it is also called the Book of Books.

Shangshu is listed as one of the important core Confucian classics, and has been studied by Confucians throughout the ages. Shang" means "on", and "Shangshu" is the book of the ancient times, which is one of the earliest compilations of historical documents in China. The traditional "Shangshu" (also known as "The Shangshu of the Present Text") was passed down by Fusheng. Legend has it that it is the leftover writings of the Three Graves and Five Classics of the ancient culture.
