In the grocery store, the most common commodities people buy are dairy products, fruits, vegetables and bread. Theoretically, you want customers to pass by as many products as possible. There are two basic layout types.
Square layout Most grocery stores, discount stores and pharmacies use square layout. In a square layout, the counter and accessories are at right angles to each other. This layout design allows customers to enter the store from the entrance, pay through the collection channel through as many commodities as possible, and finally leave the store through the exit.
Advantages: the construction cost is low, customers are familiar with this layout, the products displayed are the most, and it is easy to maintain;

Free-flowing layout Specialty stores, boutiques and gift shops can adopt free-flowing layout. In this layout, shelves and goods are classified, or goods are displayed on shelves that can freely enter and exit, creating a shopping channel without structural characteristics for customers. Shelves for displaying goods can have irregular shapes, such as semicircles or arcs. This will encourage customers to look for goods and stay in front of the goods they are interested in.
Advantages: encourage customers to browse, increase impulse purchase, visually attractive and flexible arrangement;
Disadvantages: it may increase customers' doubts, waste retail space, high cost and difficult maintenance.
There are two common variants: the basic layout variant. The standard layout includes entrance, counter, cashier and exit, which are often used in places where customers come in and out frequently (such as ticket offices and fast food restaurants). Boutique layout is based on the deformation of free flowing layout. This layout comes from the display of goods grouped by designers or manufacturers, and each group is aimed at a specific type of customers. This method is very popular in high-end department stores. Boutique layout has been successfully used by many retail stores (such as hardware stores and even some grocery stores).
