Where is Henan Opera?

Henan Opera is a local opera in Henan.

Henan Opera is famous for its sonorous singing, moderate intonation, clear articulation, mellow charm, liveliness, flesh and blood, and being good at expressing the inner feelings of characters. It is widely welcomed by people from all walks of life for its high artistry. Because its music accompaniment takes jujube bangzi as the beat, it was named Henan Bangzi in the early days.

Henan Opera, which originated in the middle and late Ming Dynasty, was developed on the basis of popular songs (folk songs and minor tunes) in Henan Province, and absorbed the singing arts of Beiqu Xiansuo, Shaanxi Opera and Zhou Pu Bangzi.

With the deepening of research and the confirmation of a large number of materials, especially in the process of compiling Henan Volume of China Opera Records, experts from all sides conducted extensive investigation and demonstration, and came to the conclusion that the earliest birthplace of Henan Opera was in the ancient capital Kaifeng and surrounding counties.

After the Revolution of 1911, Henan Bangzi performed more and more in cities. Famous tea houses in Kaifeng, such as Zhixiang Tea House, Puqing Tea House, Chenghuai Tea House, Qing Tea House, Donghuo Temple Tea House and Le Tong Tea House.
