Why are zombies afraid of glutinous rice?

I know that zombies are afraid of sticky rice, which I learned from zombie movies in Ching-Ying Lam. In the movie, when Uncle Jiu is dealing with zombies, glutinous rice is a magic weapon. People can jump on glutinous rice to disperse the ptomaine, or throw glutinous rice water at zombies, and zombies will be weakened. In fact, this method is not an orthodox method. After all, I don't think zombies exist.

First of all, it is a traditional folk custom to deal with zombies with glutinous rice. In many places in southern China, if someone dies in the village, glutinous rice will be sprinkled around the coffin bed to prevent the spread of corpse gas from hurting others. Some villagers will also sprinkle a layer of glutinous rice flour at their doorstep to keep the body out of the house. In this way, people always think that glutinous rice has the function of exorcism.

Secondly, according to archaeological data, a lot of glutinous rice was used in ancient tombs in China. When building ancient tombs, lime or glutinous rice is always filled in the cracks of bricks, and then the wall is strengthened by mixing lime and glutinous rice water. The wall itself is very strong, and the essence of glutinous rice water can avoid the spread of corpse gas and prevent fraudulent corpse.

The ancient tomb mixed with glutinous rice water is really strong, and this method is also a way to prevent grave robbery. Several pickaxes have been damaged, but the tomb wall is still motionless. In addition, the method has good corrosion resistance. A body was dug out of Yang Fuxin's tomb in Songjiang, Shanghai, which has been well preserved for more than 500 years.

Although I don't think there is any scientific basis for zombies to be afraid of glutinous rice, we can think that glutinous rice has a certain connection with zombies, whether from the folk customs in the south or the principles of ancient tomb construction.
