What are the precautions after tonsillectomy?

(1) Stay in bed for 2 ~ 3 days after operation, and tell the patient to exercise less and not to cough hard. It usually takes 10 ~ 15 days to get better.

(2) Observe whether there is bleeding in the wound, let the patient spit out secretions in the mouth, and observe whether there is new blood in the saliva. Patients under general anesthesia should take the head-side position, and when they are not awake, they should pay special attention to observe whether there are frequent swallowing movements to prevent blood swallowing.

(3) Close observation for 4-6 hours. If there is no sign of bleeding from the wound, you can start eating a cold liquid diet. Generally, it is changed to semi-liquid or soft food the next day. According to the patient's specific situation, you can eat ordinary meals 3 ~ 5 days after operation. But be careful not to puncture the wound with hard objects.

(4) The postoperative fever is due to the local spread of bacteria and toxins caused by tonsillectomy. Generally, within two to three days, the body temperature does not exceed 38℃, which is a normal phenomenon and is called surgical fever. If this rule is not met, the body temperature will continue to rise two to three days after operation. This is an infection phenomenon and should be treated immediately.
