Types of National Historic and Cultural Cities

National Historical and Cultural Cities are mainly divided into seven types according to their characteristics.

Historic Ancient Capital Type: Cities characterized by historical relics of the capital city era and the style of the ancient capital, such as Luoyang, Xi'an, Beijing and Nanjing.

Traditional style type: cities that have preserved the complete architectural complexes accumulated during one or several historical periods, such as Yulin, Shangqiu, Dali, Pingyao, and so on.

General Historic Monuments Type: Cities in which cultural relics and monuments scattered all over the city are the main manifestation of historical traditions, such as Kaifeng, Jinan, and so on.

Scenic Spots: Cities that display distinctive characteristics through the superposition of architecture and landscape environment, such as Hangzhou, Suzhou and Guilin.

Regional Characteristics: regional characteristics or unique personality traits, national flavor, local culture constitute the main body of the cityscape of the city, such as Lijiang, Lhasa and so on.

Modern historical site type: reflecting a certain event or a certain stage in history of the buildings or architectural complexes for its significant features of the city, such as Shanghai, Chongqing, Yan'an and so on.

Special function type: a certain function in the history of the city occupies a very prominent position, such as "porcelain" Jingdezhen, "salt city" Zigong.
