What kinds of cemented carbide are commonly used?
Hard alloy steel is made by mixing hard particles of carbides of refractory metals (tungsten, tantalum, titanium, molybdenum, etc.). ) is mixed with powder of one or more iron group elements (cobalt, nickel or iron), pressed and molded, and then sintered.
Types and properties of cemented carbide;
(1) Classification and brand of commonly used cemented carbide
① Tungsten-cobalt cemented carbide
The main components are tungsten carbide (WC) and binder cobalt (Co).
Its brand number consists of "YG" (Chinese phonetic prefix "hard" and "cobalt") and the percentage of average cobalt content.
For example, YG8 represents tungsten-cobalt cemented carbide with an average WCO of 8%, and the rest is tungsten carbide.
② Tungsten-titanium-cobalt cemented carbide
The main components are tungsten carbide, titanium carbide (TiC) and cobalt.
Its brand name consists of "YT" (the Chinese phonetic prefix of "hard and titanium") and the average content of titanium carbide. For example, YT 15 means average WTI = 15%, and the rest is tungsten-titanium-cobalt cemented carbide, containing tungsten carbide and cobalt.
③ Tungsten-titanium-tantalum (niobium) cemented carbide
The main components are tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, tantalum carbide (or niobium carbide) and cobalt. This kind of cemented carbide is also called universal cemented carbide or universal cemented carbide.
Its brand number consists of "YW" (Chinese phonetic prefix "hard" and "wan") and serial number, such as YW 1.
(2) Brand, composition, performance and application of commonly used cemented carbide (see the table below)
Category and brand chemical composition W/% performance scope of application
Tungsten-cobalt alloy YG3x96.5-< 0.53 is suitable for fine boring and turning of cast iron, nonferrous metals and their alloys, and can also be used for fine machining of alloy steel, quenched steel and tungsten-molybdenum materials.
When the content of tungsten carbide is high and the content of binder is low, its hardness is high and its bending strength is low.
So YG3 is suitable for finishing; On the contrary, YG 15 can bear large impact load and is suitable for rough machining.
It is suitable for rough turning, semi-finish turning and finish turning of continuous cutting of cast iron, nonferrous metals and their alloys and nonmetallic materials.
Impact rotary rock drills suitable for drilling hard rocks include shearer teeth, oil well bits, impact bits, dies, planers and blades for drilling hard rocks.
Perforation and punching tools suitable for impact rotary rock drills are used to drill hard and extremely hard rocks and work under great stress.
Tungsten-titanium-cobalt alloy YT5 85 5- 10 is suitable for surface processing of carbon steel, alloy steel, forgings, stamping parts and castings, rough turning, rough planing and semi-finish planing during irregular cutting. Adding titanium carbide in rough milling and drilling improves hardness and heat resistance.
The more titanium carbide and the less cobalt, the better the hardness, wear resistance and heat resistance of the alloy, but the worse the bending strength. So YT30 is used for finishing and YT 15 is suitable for rough machining.
YT 15 79 15-6 is suitable for carbon steel. Semi-finish turning and finish turning in continuous cutting of alloy steel, small section finish turning in intermittent cutting, semi-finish milling, finish milling, fine reaming and rough reaming of continuous surface, etc.
YT30 66 30-4 is suitable for fine machining of carbon steel and alloy steel, such as fine turning, boring and expanding of small section.
General alloy YW 184 ~ 8563 ~ 46 is suitable for finishing heat-resistant steel, high manganese steel, stainless steel and so on. The hardness, wear resistance, heat resistance and oxidation resistance of the alloy were significantly improved by adding tantalum carbide to finish the common steel, common cast iron and non-ferrous metals. It can be used for difficult-to-machine materials such as cast iron, heat-resistant steel, high manganese steel, advanced alloy steel and non-ferrous metals.
YW282 ~ 8363 ~ 48 is suitable for semi-finish machining of refractory steel, high manganese steel, stainless steel, high-grade alloy steel, etc., and also suitable for semi-finish machining of general steel, ordinary cast iron and non-ferrous metals.
