How to make glasses?
Most glasses are made by machine, but traditionally glasses are blown, machines produce identical glasses, but each handmade glass is unique. Making glass requires the use of relatively pure and fine sand, which is first washed, dehydrated and dried, sifted and sorted, then sodium carbonate and lime are added to it. The mixture is placed in a furnace at temperatures of up to 1,500 degrees Celsius, where it is melted into a thick liquid slurry. Using a hollow metal rod, known as a blowpipe, the glassblower scoops up a spoonful of the slurry from the furnace and blows into the blowpipe, causing the slurry to form a glass ball
The glass ball is then placed into a mold and the blowpipe continues to be blown into it, causing the glass to take the shape of a cup. Next, another metal rod is pressed against the bottom of the glass, and the glass is removed from the blowpipe with a sharp blow
The mouth of the glass is held open with pliers, and traces of the metal rod are wiped out with a high-temperature torch
Finally, the glass is placed in an annealing oven to anneal the glass, which could otherwise break as it cools. Allow the glass to cool after annealing.
