I think instructional design is more of a way to deal with problems, while lesson plans are a more specific fact that guides teaching.

What they have in common is the design of teaching, a process of organizing and arranging teaching content to promote student learning.

The difference is that instructional design can be the design of a specific teaching unit or the entire teaching content, or even the design of the entire teaching system.
