This bird, when the sea moves and the wind rises will move to the South China Sea. The South Sea is the pool of nature. Qi Harmony is a record of weirdness. The words of Qi Harmony say: "When the Peng moves to the South China Sea, it lifts its wings and beats the water, and the waves of the water reach thousands of miles. The little wise do not know the great wise, and the short-lived do not know the long-lived. By what right do they know it is so? The morning fungus doesn't know the beginning and end of a month, and the cicada doesn't know that there is spring and fall in a year. This is the short-lived. In the southern part of the state of Chu, there is a tree like the meditating spirit, which takes five hundred years as spring and five hundred years as autumn; and in ancient times, there was a great tsubaki tree, which took eight thousand years as spring and eight thousand years as autumn; and this is the long-lived one. Now Pangzu alone is famous for his longevity, and is it not sad that men in general compare themselves with him?
The Tangwang Thorn is like this. In the very wild and far north, where no grass grows, there is the deep black sea, the pool of nature. There is a fish there which is thousands of miles wide, and there is no one who knows its length. Its name is Kun. There was a bird there, whose name was Peng, and the back of the Peng was like Tarzan, and its wings were like the clouds that hang in the sky. The roc flew up tens of thousands of miles in a whirlwind, through the clouds, carrying the green sky on its back, and then intended to fly southward, going to the South China Sea. The rebukes laughed at it and said, "Where is it going? Song Rongzi scornfully scoffed at these people. Besides, when the whole society praised Song Rongzi, he did not become more diligent, and when the whole society reproached him, he did not become more discouraged. He was able to recognize the distinction between self and external things, and to discern the boundaries of honor and disgrace, and that was the end of it. He did not strive for anything in the world. In spite of this, there were still realms that were not established. Lie Zi flew on the wind, floating lightly, and returned only after fifteen days. He was not desperately pursuing anything in regard to inviting good fortune. This was done without the need to walk, but still by virtue of the wind. As for those who follow the nature of all things in heaven and earth and grasp the changes of the six qi, while roaming in the boundless realm, what else do they rely on? So it is said: the supreme man has no ego, the divine man has no merit, and the sage has no reputation.
