On the first day of the first month, four customs and two taboos
According to legend, the eighth day of the first month is Xiaomi's birthday, also called Shunxing Festival. As the saying goes, "the first month is a year", so the traditional customs of many days in the first month are still very interesting.
As the saying goes, "seven people, eight things, nine vegetables and ten fruits" means that people created it on the seventh day, whole grains on the eighth day, vegetables on the ninth day and fruits on the tenth day. Therefore, the eighth day of the first month is also called "Valley Day", and there are four customs and two taboos that must be known.
Four customs
1, Going out: Going out to work on the eighth day of the eighth day, instead of staying at home, means that there is hope for a bumper harvest.
There is also a saying that people with bad conduct in the eighth day are not allowed to go home, otherwise they will bring bad family members. Therefore, on the eighth day of the eighth day, the old people will teach us to be cautious and not to do things that are detrimental to moral quality.
2. Release: Liu Dong in the Ming Dynasty recorded in "A Brief Introduction to the Scenery of the Imperial Capital": "On the eighth day of the first month, birds, fish and shrimps in cages and snails and mussels in baskets were released. Luo tang qian, monks speak Sanskrit, and thousands of people look at each other. Their feathers fly in the air and evil falls on the house. Moved and left, and water and the like were thrown into the net of Jinshui River in the imperial city.
According to traditional customs, on the eighth day of the eighth day, in order to prevent small animals from spoiling food, many people will release them on this day and pray for an environment where people can live in harmony with nature.
3. Shunxing Festival: According to "Yanjing Age", "After the eighth day of the eighth lunar month, paper is dipped in oil, 108 lamps are lit, and incense is burned to worship, which is called Shunxing". According to folklore, on the eighth day of the first month, when the stars are in the lower bound, they will make small lanterns to light sacrifices, which is called Shunxing.
4. Gu Ri: According to folklore, the eighth day is Xiaomi's birthday. On the day of "Valley Day", traditional customs need to worship memorial tablets with the names of five grains written on them, pray for a bumper harvest of five grains, and teach children the knowledge of five grains, which is of great educational significance.
Two taboos
1, Don't kill: The eighth day of the first month is a day when people pay attention to opening the door and being happy. People live in harmony with nature, so killing is forbidden on the eighth day.
2. Don't waste food: "Who knows that every grain is hard?" How can Xiaomi waste food on his birthday? Moreover, on this day, everyone will fill the rice jars and flour bags at home, which is called "gathering wealth", hoping for a bumper harvest in the new year.
