Should the new building follow the traditional style?

This article comes from liuxue86.com's "Should New Buildings Follow Traditional Styles". The following is the model essay of Task2 dated June 6, 2005:

Task 2: The government has the responsibility to protect the cultural identity of a country. Therefore, some people think that new buildings should be built in the traditional style. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

As we all know, China has a long and complicated history, with a history of several thousand years. With such a long and diverse history, it is difficult to define our "cultural identity" accurately. For example, in the Tang Dynasty, many people thought fat women were the most beautiful, but now things are different. Most people think slim girls are more beautiful. The same is true of architectural design; Some things that used to be desirable are now unpopular.

I think that as a country, we have the responsibility to preserve a part of our past, but this does not mean that we must live in the past. Just because my relatives are farmers doesn't mean that every generation in the future must live in a farmhouse or even a house that looks like a farmhouse.

Many modern buildings are safer than old ones, because we have learned how to build stronger and more durable buildings. I think modern architecture with subtle traditional styles in its design is beautiful, but it is also good to make the architecture have a wild, modern and China flavor. Every period of China's history is a little different, so we should make room for new expressions.

In the future, today's latest design is likely to become a tradition. Remember this fact, I agree that some buildings should be built in traditional style; However, we should also allow young China architects to integrate the essence of the present era into their architectural design. The government not only has the responsibility to protect a country's cultural identity; It also has a responsibility to allow sustained growth.
