Application of Traditional Color Culture in Modern Interior Design
In modern interior design, color is a visual factor that can be perceived by people at the fastest speed. The following is the application of traditional color culture I shared in modern interior design. Welcome to read!
First, the traditional Chinese color concept
"Color culture is the most prominent and eye-catching part of national culture." Different nationalities have different historical cultures and traditional concepts, so the connotations given to color culture are quite different. For example, many western countries like white. Westerners believe that white is elegant and pure, and it is the most auspicious color in the world. So westerners like to use white as the wedding color, and the wedding dress worn by the bride at the wedding is white. Islamic countries love green. For them, green symbolizes the oasis in the desert and is the color of life. Black people prefer green and black. The former represents the color of their living environment, while the latter symbolizes their own skin color. Different nations and countries have different cultural connotations of colors, and the bread here contains unique culture and ideas. Chinese traditional color culture is mainly manifested in the five-element color based on the five-element philosophy. As early as the Western Zhou Dynasty, China's theory of five elements began to take shape. "Painting: variegated colors, green in the east, white in the west, red in the south, black in the north, mysterious in the sky and yellow in the ground." "Blue, red, yellow, white and black" are the traditional five-element colors in China. They contain strong philosophical and ethical thoughts and symbolic metaphors. Based on the theory of Yin-Yang and Five Elements, China's traditional philosophy holds that the objective world consists of five elements: wood, fire, earth, gold and water, which actually refer to different material forms of things. They interact, transform and connect with each other. This conforms to the basic law of the movement and change of all things in the world. In ancient China, the theory of Yin-Yang and Five Elements was widely used in traditional culture, which was deeply influenced by the philosophy of Five Elements, from the worship of the emperor's ancestral temple, the handling of government affairs, the planning of the city, the construction of palaces, and the daily necessities of the people. The thought of Yin-Yang and Five Elements completely penetrated into the thoughts and lives of ancient people in China. China's traditional five-element color is a part of five-element study. The color of China not only has its own physical properties, but also has been graded by the rulers. Ethical thought integrates color with ethical standard system, externalizes ethical order into perceptible color image, and makes it full of special emotional and cultural cognitive ideas. In ancient China, different dynasties had their own set of strict standards for the use of colors. According to different grades, court officials have strict regulations on the use of colors for clothes and houses, and they cannot use colors that are inconsistent with their own grades. Different religious etiquette occasions and different social activities also have their own regulations on the use of colors, and colors are divided into different grades. In addition to the colors of the five elements, the yin-yang and five elements are also matched with the five elements and five colors that the ancients often said. According to the law, we can know that spring is wood, the corresponding orientation is in the east, and the corresponding color is cyan of vegetation; Summer is fire, the corresponding direction is in the south, and the corresponding color is red; Autumn is golden, the corresponding orientation is in the west, and the corresponding color is white; Winter is water, the corresponding position is in the north, and the corresponding color is black, representing the water of the abyss. Earth is the color of the earth, and everything is born in the earth, with the corresponding orientation in the middle and the corresponding color being yellow.
Second, the aesthetic characteristics of Chinese traditional color concept
The traditional five-element colors in China are divided into five normal colors and intermediate colors. "Pentachromatic colors" refer to cyan, magenta, yellow, white and black. These are the five most basic colors that exist in nature. The color produced by mixing two "positive colors" is "intermediate color". This statement is very similar to the seven-color theory of western spectrum. Different from the West, China classifies black and white which belongs to achromatic color into five positive colors. Five positive colors are mixed in different ways, which makes the purity, lightness and hue of colors change endlessly. Influenced by the ancient feudal hierarchy in China, the royal family, nobles and the people showed different ideological colors. The traditional five-element culture thinks that everything is born on the earth, and yellow, which represents the earth element, is regarded as the noblest color among the five-element colors and is the special color of ancient emperors. According to research, in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, yellow was regarded as the supreme color, bright yellow could only be the color of the emperor's clothes, and "yellow coat" was only for the emperor's special reward. China called the ancestor of ancient times the Yellow Emperor, and later generations the descendants of the Chinese people. The application of the five elements color in the royal family is not only reflected in clothing, but also in the planning of the imperial city and the construction of palaces and mansions. For example, buildings such as Daming Palace in the Tang Dynasty are mainly red and white. Generally speaking, the wooden frame is red, the wall is white, and the roof is decorated with gray-black tiles, which is very imposing. Compared with the gorgeous colors used in royal buildings, most of the traditional residential buildings in China only use elegant colors such as black, white and gray. This determines the simple color style of traditional folk houses relative to royal architecture. From the historical background and geographical location, many dynasties in China established their capitals in the north, such as Beijing, Xi and Luoyang. Therefore, in the use of color, residential buildings in China tend to use more colors in the north, while they are more elegant in the south. Color is reflected in ordinary people's clothes, which are as follows: first, people seldom wear positive color clothes because of the infiltration of strict feudal ethical hierarchy; Secondly, people at that time thought that their date of birth was related to color. The color of clothes should be consistent with the five elements. For example, people who lack wood in the five elements can wear blue clothes, and people who lack fire in the five elements can choose red clothes. Under the influence of the concept of five colors, people from all walks of life, such as corporal, agriculture, industry and commerce, usually use different colors on their clothes. In the design of modern society, the five elements of color are no longer given hierarchical distinction. Designers pay more attention to the use of colors that conform to people's physiology and psychology according to specific conditions. When people re-examine the colors of the five elements with rational eyes, they find that unique laws can also shine in modern design colors.
Thirdly, the application of Chinese traditional colors in modern interior design.
From the perspective of five elements, there is a relationship called "inner five elements". Indoor space can be divided into eight directions: east, west, south, north, southeast, southwest, northeast and northwest, and each direction has different five elements. How to use color in different spatial directions is a subject we need to study. The attribute of the living room in the five elements is gold, corresponding to the west, and the corresponding color is white. Living rooms with different orientations use the five elements of color in different ways. If the living room faces south, the five elements belong to fire, and according to the theory of mutual restraint of the five elements, fire and gold are its wealth. Therefore, as we all know, white and light color symbolizing metallic luster are more suitable colors. Therefore, in the choice of living room decoration color, white or light color can be used. If the living room in the home faces east, the five elements in the east belong to wood, wood is soil, and the recipient is wealth, that is to say, soil is the wealth of wood. Yellow is the representative color of earth elements, so the overall decoration color of the living room should be mainly yellow. At the same time, the east is the rising direction of the sun, and the yellow color system representing the earth element can imply the bright scene of the sun hanging high on the earth. If the living room at home faces west, it can be concluded that the western five elements belong to gold, and Jin Kemu is its wealth. The representative color of wood is green. In the overall decoration of the living room and the purchase of furniture, green can play a prosperous role. And the sun sets in the west, and the living room will be more sunny and brighter in the afternoon. The layout of the green department can make it visually buffered and feel cool and pleasant. From the analysis of the living room in the north, the five elements in the north belong to water, and fire, water and soil are their wealth. Therefore, the decoration of the living room can be mainly warm and red, which can play the role of prosperous wealth. The room facing north is cloudy, so dressing up in warm colors will give people a warm feeling. If you use more cool colors such as blue, green, black and white, it will only make people feel colder. The attribute of the bedroom in the five elements is wood. The representative color is cyan. You can also choose warm colors and warm colors according to your personal preferences. From the function analysis of the room, the bedroom belongs to people's private space, is a place to rest and sleep, and is the most relaxed and comfortable place in the home. Therefore, you should choose elegant and quiet colors, which will help relieve stress and eliminate fatigue. It is suggested to decorate with lavender, light blue, light green and light yellow. The lightness or chroma of indoor furniture and cloth furnishings should be properly considered, and the style and atmosphere of the room can be changed by changing the bedding of different colors in the bedroom. The study is a place for reading and writing. Like the bedroom, the attribute in the five elements is wood. Judging from the spatial attributes of the study, it is a place that needs to be quiet. People often think in the study and work quietly, so it is not appropriate to make noise. Generally speaking, the three principles of study decoration color are "elegance", "simplicity" and "purity". You can choose elegant and simple ivory, light yellow, beige, light blue or white to create a quiet and refreshing environment. Decorations should be in harmony with the environment of the study, and hanging soft-colored calligraphy and painting is a good choice. Modern style study can also be decorated with warm colors, and large-scale use is prohibited. The placement of plants can add some natural flavor to the study, which is conducive to alleviating visual fatigue and regulating the spirit. Simply put, the color layout of the study should be "elegant" rather than "vulgar" and not too heavy. The five elements in the kitchen belong to fire. The color design of the kitchen should first respect the owner's hobbies, and on this basis, don't use bright red and fancy colors. These colors are easy to dazzle and cause fire. Choose white, beige, ivory or light blue and light green to create a bright and clean kitchen effect. Choosing brown and light brown can create a stable kitchen effect. The combination of glass and metal can create a fashionable and modern feeling in the choice of materials and colors of cabinets, and wood grain is the choice to highlight leisure and comfort and pursue pastoral natural style. The five elements in the bathroom belong to water. In the collocation of decoration colors, it is appropriate to choose golden white and water black or dark blue. Some of them are comfortable and generous in color, others are easy to clean and more resistant to dirt. The combination of the two makes the space atmosphere good and easy to clean, and the physical and mental health of family members and the elegant atmosphere of the bathroom can be satisfied.
