Stephen Chow's rise to fame?

Born in Hong Kong to a mainland immigrant family, Stephen Chow lived in poverty in a poor neighborhood in Kowloon. The family of five crammed into a narrow wooden room, slept on bunk beds, and took rice with soy sauce as their favorite food. When he was seven years old, his parents divorced, and he followed his mother, sister and sister to live.

During the summers of junior high school, Chow worked part-time to supplement his family's income, earned pocket money for himself, bought comic books and watched movies, practiced kung fu, and became addicted to break dancing. After he became famous, Tony Leung said, "It was all his idea, and at the time, I wasn't open to acting, and he was both the director and the actor in that short film, and I was just the actor. Chou also ran to discuss with the assistant director, but the director immediately vetoed it. After that, he still kept on giving his opinion, but of course it was rejected again and again. The actor, who was hoping to block one more slap, had reached a state of obsession with acting at this point.

In 1990, when "The Saint of Gamblers" was released in Hong Kong for four weeks, Stephen Chow confirmed his no-nonsense funny style. Since then, Chow has won every battle, and his productions have become more sophisticated and costly.

"The Deer and the Tripod" represented his most brilliant period. By "Journey to the West with Big Lies," Chow's artistic value was fully realized, but he suffered a defeat at the box office.
